Whats your' latest gear acquisition?

After 30 years of playing guitar, I have finally gotten an acoustic - a used Ovation. I'm not even sure of the exact model, but it's one of the multi-hole models with the curved back, which I think makes it a Celebrity. Pictures will follow when I've gotten it cleaned up a bit, since it clearly hasn't gotten much love for years!

Cleaned up and restrung! I'm not even sure exactly which model this is, although I think it's a 1990s Korean-made instrument. Apparently certain ranges of Ovations had serial numbers that are largely useless for detective work because they followed no pattern and only meant something to the particular factory doing the work, or something. The guy who sold it to me said it was a CE44, but I'm pretty sure it is not, although it's similar.

The guitar was filthy when I got it, and clearly unloved, although structurally sound. I think it might have still had the original strings on it. The electronics are non-functional and the access door is missing, although the access door is an easy fix and I think the electronics are eminently fixable too; I've already confirmed that they power on and the tuner works. Looking at them, I can almost tell what happened - a cheap cable broke off in the jack, somebody took out the jack to try and fix things, and ended up breaking a wire going to the jack. With any luck, five minutes of soldering and replacing the jack nut, and we're back in business electronically. Sounds good acoustically already!

Fury is unimpressed, though.

I've been seriously GASsing for that pedal since it was introduced. It seems super versatile and that Dry control is a killer feature. Enjoy!

I just picked up a Lincoln Brewster signature. I think someone on here said they got one (on the .com incarnation of our forum) and clued me in to a guitar with pretty amazing specs. I'm quite certain this one is a keeper. It's just so versatile with the boost/eq controls built-in. I love the Dimarzio areas, locking tuners, and the compound radius.

I'll likely put the Sterling James Valentine and the G&L Legacy HSS on the market. I might even consider getting rid of the Ibanez AZ. I like it that enough that I could see myself using those three quite a bit less. It's hard to say though, that AZ is pretty cool. I just have a feeling that I'd play this more.

We'll see if I'm just in the honeymoon period.

Bought this from my step-nephew. I think he thought it was higher end than it is and gave me a great deal but I think it's actually just an average price (or maybe slightly higher than average due to some cosmetic issues).

Pretty sure it's a 2005 Martin GC MMV (D16-size 'custom' featured-deleted Guitar Center custom run).

It's got a few cosmetic issues, the most obvious of which are discoloration on the headstock from a left-on capo and a significant ding on the top binding.

It sounds pretty good although I put 013 gauge strings on it and it's binding the g string at the nut. I think I'm going to replace the saddle and bridge pins and maybe the nut too and when I do I'll probably roll it down to some 012 gauge strings. Sounds very different from the Taylor and the Washburns although I think they all sound good in different ways.

Needed to buy a keyed alike entry door set for the house so while I was shopping, why not add a cheap condenser mic... Really didn't need it but it's not really about need now is it?

My awesome wife decided she'd get me this for an early birthday gift, since I'd been watching videos and debating on whether I really wanted one for the past few months.

I have a Zoom G5 that I really like, and I was hoping this would be an upgrade to that. I don't really care for the sounds going direct into my Zoom R24 when recording with the G5, but I did like the direct sounds on the videos that I watched with the PODGo, and it's supposed to be the same basic sounds as the Helix. I got it from AMS for a price that I think was fair ($15 under what they're currently going for). It arrived right after I left for work yesterday afternoon, so I got to play around with it a bit late last night.

At first, I really wasn't impressed. The footswitches are assignable to different effects models in the unit, but you can really only assign 4 effects to the patch because the amp, cab, eq, effects loop, and expression pedal take up the other 5 spots. For instance, I built a patch similar to my favorite on the Zoom. On the Zoom, I have a noise gate, light overdrive, "Governor" model, Twin amp/cab model, and 2 different reverbs (1 of which is always on). I also have 2 more open spots on the patch, along with the expression pedal assignment and the "Tube Booster" for a lead boost. On the PODGo, I have the volume pedal (mandatory expression), noise gate, light overdrive, heavier overdrive, Twin amp model (mandatory amp), effects loop (mandatory), reverb, EQ (mandatory) then Twin cab model (mandatory cab), with no open slots left. After going through the manual, I was able to set up some snapshots of my patch, so that one switch turns on multiple effects, and I realized that I could use my G5 in the effects loop if I needed to. By 2 o'clock this morning, I was liking the unit a little more. I plan on messing around with it a lot more this weekend to tweak the sounds for my amp and direct into the Zoom R24.

Nice. I'll have you just skip the irritation with ovations and put a permanent strap on it. The rounded part will keep wanting to slide flat on your leg and drive you crazy.

That's what everybody says, but I haven't actually had too much trouble with it. It doesn't sit as nicely as a regular flat-sided acoustic, but it does have a semi-flattish part at the bottom, so it's tolerable. That said I did put a strap on it right away because of my fear that it would slip and I'd drop it.

I don't think I could even play 7s. I have a hard enough time with 9s tuned to Eb. My usual is 9-46 these days.

And my latest gear acquisition might not show until November. Ugh!

I switched back to mostly 9’s after playing 10’s and a lot of acoustic the past several years and I’ve broken a couple of high e strings bending which I hadn’t done in ages. They feel and sound good otherwise though. Never tried 7’s.

I found a monoprice 15w tube amp on local market for $150–same thing i paid for mine new a few years ago.

I did this to it.

My spark amp finally got delivered yesterday but I haven’t opened it yet.

So you cut it down and made a head out of it. What are the black stripes to hide the cuts? Picks of the sides/back?

yeah, the cut is under the bottom tape. originally i wanted to do it cleaner and not cut any tolex but i don't have a good way to do a 45 degree cut anyway so in the end i used a jigsaw (!) to cut it straight enough to glue (there's a little bit of extra structural integrity with wood panel on the back that was there already that i cut around and screwed to the sides). the two top pieces of tape are just cosmetic to make it kinda symmetric, they aren't covering anything.

side and back:

could have been a whole lot cleaner if i had a table saw, but i didn't care a ton what it looked like and had a jigsaw so this is what i get. the grill was the hardest part really, i cut down the removable panel (usually goes over the tubes) from the back, salvaged the grill cloth from the speaker baffle and stapled it on that thing then wedged it in there. it already had the vent in the middle and was the right width so i just had to cut the height a little (again, though, with a fucking jigsaw).

i did think about trying to use some of the removed tolex to cover the slice but i'm not sure that would look any better than the tape and might look worse. the particle board under there is pretty ugly, if i ever do get proper tools i'd probably rather make a whole new enclosure out of real wood.

New Monoprice 112 cabinet came today. Surprisingly, it also came with a 2 button foot switch instead of the speaker cable I was expecting. So, I ran to the local shop and picked up a cable. The Monoprice 15 watt tube amp run through the new cab with the Vintage 30 speaker sounds great. The stock speaker is okay, but can sound boxy to me. The 2-button foot switch work with my amp. Button 2 controls the reverb on/off which is a nice bonus. I am looking for a reverb pedal since the build in reverb is just okay.
