What kind of amp are you going through? I've had someone say it didn't sound like the Youtube videos of the pedal built by others. I've used all stock component values. I'm thinking these sellers are voicing it different as it's not really a pedal but meant to be left on all the time and the amp adjusted to find your sound.
I actually thought through my Nobels sound studio headphones that in the stock position it was very trebley. That's what it's supposed to do. I wish i had a old Vox AC30 before the top boost. I do have a Marshall 18w bluesbreaker clone with 2/10's that is slightly dirty by itself and i can see me putting in a few hours with a SG or a tele with a muddy neck pickup. I haven't tried to overdrive a tube amp (original purpose) but it should do that very well.
That's ironic - literally the only thing I did with it was overdrive a tube amp! It just put a little additional hair/body on my sound. I played through my Monoprice 5W with some swapped tubes. I will say in most circumstances I find that amp very bright - almost all pedal/guitar tone controls live below noon through that amp. But I did not find any of the three settings on the rangemaster to be offensively bright. I did not play it very loud, perhaps that will make a difference? And I'm sure stacking it through other pedals will change things, as will using other guitars, and when it sits in a mix with other instruments it will sound different, too. But on first blush, I did not find it harsh. I don't remember what it means to have the switch left, but switch left, boost dimed sounded pretty massive. That was my favorite sound of the first 20 minutes...
Using it with a tele neck pickup is high on the list, though sadly I'm currently waiting for new tele pups, so that may sit. I'm most interested in using it to boost my army of MIAB pedals. I also have a Gretsch semi with pretty bright pups. If the pedal has unwanted treble characteristics, that setup is most likely to amplify them. Like I said, I'll keep updating as I play.
I didn't even open mine - what transistor is inside?
