Gents, the ol' Rockman X100 is still like $900.
Might you have any ideas on cost effective clones?
Thanks all!

If you use Amplitude the X100 is included in their new "Satriani" offering.

Alternately, you can get the X100 plus it's Cab Sim for $45 in their "Custom Shop" and run it in their free version of Amplitude Custom Shop.

The iOS AmpliTube version is even cheaper, but the cost of an interface might make up the difference, and I can’t get it to output in stereo which kind of defeats the purpose.

Yowza. No the Nobels doesn't quite hang here. Man, those are some grail tones I guess harder to reach than the brown sound.

IMO it's a good unit that stands on its own and a worthy piece of gear to have in your arsenal. Hard to come by these days.

If I had dialed those Nobels sounds up on like a Pod, I'd probably have some fun with them. Hearing it next to the Rockman though is a non-starter.LightWingStudios wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 10:30 amIMO it's a good unit that stands on its own and a worthy piece of gear to have in your arsenal. Next stop, I wonder if I can get a patch for my old Pod X3 if it still works.
Yeah i have one since the 80's? It won't get the Boston sound like a rockman but I get sick of that real quick anyway. It has more sound choices and also has a send and return for outboard effects, rockman doesn't have that. Way more versatile. Mine is not Nobels branded but 99% there with a few different buttons.
A friend of mine also has one and uses it for recording and said it works great.
For 9 times the price you would have to be crazy to buy a rockman.
This is the better rackmount version with even more options.

The X100 actually seems to be the most versatile of all the Rockman stuff. With some EQs before and after it’ll actually do some real nice blues crunch or drop tune djent stuff without sounding unnatural. My Rockman Sustainor won’t do that.

While true, $45 is ALOT cheaper than a overpriced $900 40 year old piece of hardware that will need to be refurbished at additional HIGH COST before it dies.

Agree. I'm quite picky about things feeling right though. 80% of the way there, for me, is not really there. Otherwise I end up buying more and more and more "almost there" things and never being satisfied.LightWingStudios wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 12:38 pmWhile true, $45 is ALOT cheaper than a overpriced $900 40 year old piece of hardware that will need to be refurbished at additional HIGH COST before it dies.

IMO the Amplitude X100 gets you 90-95% there...then again us "Tone Mutts" are never satisfied hence the very nature of us beasties.PsychoCid wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 1:18 pmAgree. I had a Rockman as a young man for a very short time. All I did was play Boston stuff through it. Therein lies the problem.
I will say this though: the Rockman was unique. The way it made the notes bounce off each other was unlike any other guitar toy.
But, to my mind, the best Biston tones came from the 1st album. And they didn't have the Rockman for that.
