No vocals, thank goodness. It's been a while since I've heard this song but it came on the radio today. I thought: "I can play that." Many Ultimate Guitar pages later I decided to capo up on the 5th fret. I don't have a 12-string so I doubled the acoustic.

That entire album Starfish is one of the best of the 80's. You owe it to yourself to check it out, and yes UTMW has always been a fave. Sadly, I missed them do this album at a small club in Santa Barbara. I've seen Kilby live, Marty Wilson-Piper too. All great gigs.

I'm listening to a Pandora station that is playing other Church songs than this one. I've never heard most of them but I like 'em.idiotsdelight wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:23 am That entire album Starfish is one of the best of the 80's. Thanks to this thread I've been exploring the discography of The Church. Many thanks @tlarson58.
When "Under the Milky Way Tonight" was released in 1988 I recall hearing the tune, probably for the first time on MTV on the show 120 Minutes while I was waiting for Headbanger's Ball to come on. While I was mainly focused on raunchy rock & roll and technical guitar shredding, I was still capable of being seduced by an evocative melody, dreamy lyrics, and production that took one on a journey. While I didn't understand the alternative scene and bands like The Church, this tune had an angst and feeling of youthful longing that appealed to me.
