this is why I'll never spend more than $300 for an electric guitar:
$150 guitar from Amazon sounds great!

Basswood!!??!! I'm out.
Seriously nothing against it but the only reason I own so many guitars is because of the different grains that show. If they were all basswood then they might as well be resin and painted and I'd probably only own a strat a tele and lp. It is amazing what you get for so little and even more amazing what wood you can get for just $50 more sometimes.
Signed wood snob.

While it is true that I can likely sound just as good on my $200 Maya Strat clone as I could on an American professional series Strat, I could also get to the corner store in a $1200 beater car just as well as a $35K sport model...I still want to own the sport model.
Currently I have a $200 Maya Strat, a $250 Century LP goldtop which I have upgraded with Wilkinson pickups and Epi wiring and POTS, and a $130 Kazuki (fake Japanese name) acoustic guitar. I love all 3 and they hang on the living room alcove wall. However, I also plan to add a $650 Epiphone Riviera and $750 Gretsch 'Rat-Rod" early nexy year (after kitchen upgrades of course as I do love my cooking environment to be comfortable).
Retired now and want to own and experience a few 'nicer' guitars before I head to the big Stairway to Heaven songfest in the sky...or would that be the one underneath ?

To each his own, and there are some great guitars to buy in the under $200 range these days. I used to feel similar on guitar purchases. Then I bough my first PRS. I own four now and about to own a 5th. My favorites are the S2 models. But again, to each us own. I say don’t limit yourself.

As long as they play well and sound good with the pups I wanna have, there is no limit to how little I am willing to spend.
"The man that hath no music in himself, nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils. The motions of his spirit are dull as night, and his affections dark as Erebus. Let no such man be trusted."

Yep. I'm pleased as punch with the SX strat I got for $41 from Goodwill. Sounds great, plays great, looks beautiful. I can't see any reason to spend more.Partscaster wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 4:46 pm As long as they play well and sound good with the pups I wanna have, there is no limit to how little I am willing to spend.
