Anyone ever mod the SX headstock?

I have an SX strat with the last headstock version (the pointy beak one that was a little like a Suhr). I've never been a big fan of it. I've thought a few times about a neck swap but a thought occurred to me this morning that maybe I could come up with a better shape. Anyone try it? Thanks!

I've thought about that too, but haven't done it because the reshaping would be the easy part for me. Refinishing is my weak skillset.

I feel like @Mossman has modded the bass headstock, not sure about guitar.

For clarity though that beak headstock is KRAMER. Suhr is just a rip off. :)

Technically the headstock in my avatar was created by cutting and attaching more wood to that beak.

A small/thinner strat profile, or almost a tele?

Maybe you could cut a straight line (chopsaw) to then add/glue more wood to, then recut larger new head in style of desire. I.E.

I used the love of 7.25" radius' as my excuse to swap out for fender licensed necks mostly Allparts, MIJ. (Allparts soft-v "SRO-V", from Stratosphere is my favorite contour).
Although, I dont seem to mind the Callisto's that I cant swap.

refinishing whatever with Tru Oil (linseed based) is easy as finger painting, and leaves a nice surface in just 3-4 coats, tintable with oil paint.

I remember someone cut/sanded the headstock into the traditional fender shape.
I don't remember what SX version it was though...

Good thing he lives on the French Riveria or the natives might show up at his house with tourches & pitchforks!

I think that one you linked looks great.

I've done plenty of tele style re-shapes. I think Rondo started to subtly change them. After awhile there was less meat on them.

I'd go the route explained previously about the cut/glue/cut for a strat shape. Theres good threads on tdpri about it.

Someone did a real nice one, I think it was on a Liquid? 2 tone color, blue and white maybe? I think it had some surfacing where some material was removed from the face as well.

Yup, the tele shape was possible on older models. It can still be done, but it's a tad too thin once cut. Noticeably so.

I'd either graft new wood to it or leave it be.

I have one of the older SX STL-50 (Teles) that had just enough for me to cut it into a normal Fender Tele headstock shape. Took about 2 minutes with a scroll saw, another 2 minutes to sand it smooth with an orbital sander and about 30 seconds to wipe some Minwax wipe-on semi gloss poly. Took longer to remove and reinstall the neck and tuners. Still have that guitar (was my first Tele after over 50 years of playing).

I regret not having bought a couple more of those back then.

I remember the big mod everyone was doing at talkbass was just using a lid of something to trace off the end and circumcisizing it. I personally didn't think it was worth the effort.
