With those cuts, you have an opportunity for a hybrid of finishes. You can paint it, then sand off the high sections (leaving the low sections painted), then finish the high sections with whatever you like, natural, stain, what have you.

Yes I was thinking about that. It has black binding also. Also may do a plexiglass pickguard since the holes are there, otherwise I would have gone with no pickguard. Maybe I can get the wife to make me a stained glass guard of some sort.

Wife said she can make one. Don't know about the mounting holes but will figure something out.

Somewhat transparent but colored? That sounds interesting. I am confused as to why the pattern continues into the neck pocket, and that would worry me a bit. If that has the same depth, I think I would fill it.

Yeah that is odd, maybe it's burned to that depth.

My first thought is to fill the design with resin, perhaps a turquoise. Then a midrange tint stain on the wood, covered with 2K.

Of course, I seem to like to complicate things unnecessarily.

Well, got the body today. The darker areas are the lower. The pieces of wood appear to have a different shade so to speak. I'm going to have to keep them darker and try to even that wood difference out. Probably some stain. I do have a Aliexpress roasted tele neck on the way and it appears to be reddish. This body seems to have a Aztec/ Alien crop circle thing going on with the squares. I may add a circle/circles somewhere. It's for next year's project, as i have too many things going on right now.

Looks like a laser engravers used to burn the pattern

Exactly. I'm guessing different pieces of the wood burned different hence the odd colors. You can see in the neck and pickup pockets how it appears to be out of focus. That must make a awful lot of smoke.
