What if momo had a good preconversion backup and we could either port every pic and post and PM into here or some how get all our old data back. Would there be interest?
What would we pay? I'd kick in a few bucks to have my history back. Someday when I'm famous it may be worth something

I would have thought about it last May, not now and I don't want to compensate their behavior.

I still say that we were a little lucky in that they were virgins and didn't know exactly what they were doing. We, which is to say LightWingStudios, was able to get the dotNet and though they tried to stop it we were able to get the word out to many using our hijacked platform.
MOMO probably learned a lot about where, when, and how to stick it in. I would say we go the Momo vaccine.

Patrick explored that possibility but for a number of reasons including logistical, it was a non-starter. A real shame though...

At the time my only strategy was to contact them to see if they'd sell us the Domain and/or just the Content. When they said "No."

In response I just quickly and quietly used the old NUKE 'EM IF 'YA GOT 'EM! ploy.

Had a new site up in days. Hopefully they shat themselves.

Ryan certainly has way with words but there are a lot of things that could use an honest explanation around here @LightWingStudios

More than once posts, and even entire threads have been deleted based on profanity or other topics without any explanation. None of the current moderators have knowledge of who or how or why they were removed, that has been publicly discussed here as well.

Bottom line Patrick - if you have a problem with particular issues such as foul language or firearms or whatever that's fine. But if you expect this community to grow, or even continue to exist, you need to be transparent about it and post your wants/needs in the forum rules. And when you do ( or whomever else might be deleting this content without notice ) you need to notify people. A simple "your post was deleted because it goes against community guidelines" is sufficient.

Because in the end, what you ( or whomever else ) is doing is also killing this forum, just not quite as quickly as the MOMO folks did. This is probably the third or fourth time this issue has gotten bad enough to lose another member, and just when you think things have improved it happens again. And who knows how much has been deleted collectively that we'll never see?

Alright, I am back. Whatever. I realized that since @mickey will never be on Facebook there is no way I can keep track of his shenanigans. After reading posts from all of you for the last 13 years....well it is a hard drug to give up. That being said....

The no profanity rule is a bullshit rule that is half-assed enforced, and benefits no one. Don't like the way I talk, then block me. You won't be the first, you won't be the last. The thing I miss most about the old AGF is there were 2 rules: No Religion and No Politics. That rule applied to everyone, not certain people. It was enforced by the mods, not the Almighty. AGF was one of the few places I could speak the way that I wanted to, or convey the emotions that I wanted to, without consequences. It was like the wild west. Not that I am not appreciative of everything that has been done here, but posts being modified or deleted without reason is some ugly mustard.

If Supreme Leader Lightwing wants to search all my posts and censor them like a 3rd grader trying to swear, so be it, it won't stop me at this point.

Apparently, "fuc" was replaced with "far' without his knowledge nor was he notified of his post being edited.

I'm no fan of that kind of language and use obvious substitutes in my posts if I feel the it's within the context. However and unfortunately, words that once were generally considered obscene have entered mainstream journalism and so I don't see myself as an arbiter of what is appropriate language and what is not.

Ryan is upset that his posts were edited as well as not being notified of the edits and I can understand that. I can not recall this kind of language being edited in previous iterations of AGF nor could I find any reference to specific site restrictions on posts other than political content. The only reference to language is this statement on the board index page: "The use of profanity is GREATLY DISCOURAGED...we're are all adults here so let's act like it and please govern yourself accordingly" . It says discouraged, not prohibited.

IMO, If the latter is the case, then the rules need to be updated to reflect that. The definition of what constitutes profanity also needs to be further defined as what I think is obscene obviously might not be the same as someone else (I specifically recall getting cracked over the head with a ruler in 4th grade by Sister Mary Elizabeth for saying the word "crap"). The rule then needs to be consistently applied with members being notified of any edits to their posts and the reason for it specifically referenced. Otherwise, to arbitrarily apply this without further definition and notification will appear to be selective enforcement and Ryan referenced that specifically, basically asking if other members can use that language in their posts then why can't he? I've got no answer for that....

Based on the contents of my email since this occurred, aside from selling it to MoMo, this is about the quickest way of killing AGF.
People do not expect (nor like) having their posts arbitrarily edited for language (or anything else) and it has never been the norm on AGF.
If it continues I expect to see an exodus from AGF.
A real shame to first save AGF then kill it for no good reason.
