I must say you're a great Dad you're son will be very happy with that rig and great deal.
The cab sounds surprisingly big when the deep mode is engaged on my MV50 Rock.
The toylike look of these belies the power they hold. I sold my DSL40C because mine had better Marshall tone at low volume as well as ear piercing power through a 1x12 or 2x12 cabinet.

The Vox arrived today. After about an hour of time to check it out, I think I like it with the 8" cab better than my 12" V30 cab (still deciding). It can get louder than we'll ever need it for bedroom playing. Put my pedal board in front of it, and it sounds every bit as good if not better than my Monoprice 15W tube amp. So far I'm quite impressed with this little thing. I really expected the cab to be one to stick in the closet never to get much use.

I have the Vox MV50 Clean head (got it for like $100 or so to use as a backup for a few weeks when my '76 Hiwatt blew a fuse and needed to be fixed), really great sounding tones and extremely pedal friendly. I really like the EQ switch on the back too, lot of tonal flexibility. The fact that it made a suitable temp backup to an amp as glorious as the Hiwatt is pretty heavy praise, and it deserves it. Monoprice just had the 1x12 on sale too for $199 free shipping. I was tempted but I have amp chassis' looking for homes.
