Got this early, Korean made first batch Schenker V at a good price, IMO...about $400 including shipping and original case.

It's nigh mint condition too. Really clean.

I gather these sold for circa 1500 new, and they were later replaced with a cheaper version that no longer has DiMarzio US made pickups but DMTs and no set neck either. This is closer to the $3K USA standard model, but doesn't have the binding or block inlays on neck.

In any case, it plays and sounds great. No need to even swap pickups. Frets are quite low, far from jumbo, but I like them lots. Still tall enough that even tapping is easy. Balance is perfect despite heavy Grover tuners. All mahogany construction, the new bolt-on versions have maple necks.

I immediately put in strap locks and black knobs instead of white. Looks better this way IMO and one of the knob hats was broken.

Also swapped the switch position to where it is on my other two Vs, the original position is quite awkward.

My Epi V and Cort V are real nice guitars too but I had to modify them quite a bit to make them good. This is really very nice as is, I don't think I need to mod it any further. Just will double-check intonation once the new strings set in.

I'm a happy camper. Three '58 body style Vs at home is a good place to be ImageImageImageImageImage

I love the couple I've played with the lights out pickups (ceramic i think). Makes the fingers automatically play rock bottom. I played the newer fixed neck called the retro. Its a nice price point between your older model and the new bolt neck models. I probably would have bought one but I'd look like such a poser with absolutely NO ability to pull off schenker. People say how awkward they are but standing they are fine and if you put the lower arm between your legs it makes for a very classical playing position. And of course nothing is more rock and roll standing with it jammed between your legs :)

Yeah, these are ceramic Lights Outs.

I always adored Vs, but when I finally had a custom '68 model built for me, it did feel clumsy. It's just so big! So with a broken heart I sold

It off...

But later I came across a '58 body one and was amazed how much smaller it feels and looks. Even though the body dimensions are the same, it really isn't anywhere the same. The original body style sits soooo nicely on you and neck access is far better as well. Somehow it looks a lot smaller.

Basically, I started thinking of the '58 V as an LP but without the weight and superb fret access and incredibly light weight, yet pretty much the same sound, if any different, just a bit more raunchy and wild.

Since then I hardly play anything else. And it's very comfortable to play sitting down too, once you get used to it. Can't believe I never realized it before - I kept looking for light guitars in SGs and various superstrats, but always just wanted a Les Paul without the weight...I'm pretty sure I'll never play a different guitar model much any more.

Granted, you sort of have to play loud rock with these. However the Korina one with plain woods finish would fit even a blues player just fine even in looks. That looks classy!

BTW. Looks like you are happy with your new dog. You were looking for a specific personality. Did it turn out that way. I have 3 plus 2 I inherited. All weird crazy different personalities but all lovable. Even the 2 I resent

Oh yeah, super happy. She's incredible. Super gentle and always under my arm or on my lap, but keeps a good watch and all. And best of all, smells wonderful and the fur is literally dirt repelling, never have to wash her.

We're gonna breed her, she's a champion with lots of trophies already and we'll keep one of the pups.Image

I dont like the Vee Dean headstock but I could live with it.
Never played one but the Vee, Explorer and LP with sculpted neck heels are about all the get me Gassing these days.
Honorable mention to Firebird types too.

Have never held or played any of them; maybe I could write them off if I did.
