I was mindlessly scrolling through facebook when I saw an ad for a kickstarter campaign for oPik, an optical pickup. Have you guys seen this yet? It uses optics to generate an electrical current at the frequency of the strings instead of magnets. Not sure how good they actually sound from the limited examples in the videos they have, but it does let you change the volume of individual strings with an app on your phone. It's pretty cool, but not sure if I'd ever want to buy one quite yet.

Biggest con to it that I see is that it needs to be powered through their proprietary power supply that is the size of a guitar pedal. 150 mA at 9V supply must be too much for a standard 9V battery in a guitar like active pickups???
