Took guitar with broken headstock to local vendor who made good on his promise of a replacement. Outside of some rusty strings (why do guitar shops do this !) a perfectly good replacement was offered without any fuss.
Eventually will swap pickups out for vintage Wilkinson's and some CTS POTS. But other than that, guitar plays great and no major flaws observable. Not too bad for $165 bucks..a good modding platform.
Correction....CTS POTS might not fit import...have to remove and measure shaft length and diameter. I am hoping to use one of those ubiquitous Epiphone wiring harnesses sold just about everywhere...if they fit then all I need do is solder in the new pickups and good to go.

Forgot to mention...in all my excitement at getting a good guitar replacement...failed to notice it has a full, well done set of fret nibs..so no sharp edges to worry about...nice feature on a budget model.

Ordered new Epihone Wiring Harness (POTS and Switch), a set of Wilkinson P90 pickups (black) and black pickguard, TopHat Knobs, and Poker Chip. The Makeover commences. With the new parts, the guitar comes to about $240 bucks which was the original price before the online discount.
