GT-8 again...direct to poweramp

Everyone says the drives/amp models in the GT-8 are terrible and I just wanted to test that. Can't agree. Sure the presets are really 80s and pretty bad, but if you start with a clean amp preset and spend fifteen minutes playing with gain and EQ settings you can get pretty nice sounds that start to crunch naturally. Add a little later of dirt from pedal models and some more EQ and it's no worse than others.

Here it goes to a Mooer baby bomb amp and then into a cheap Celestion (rocket 88 or something) in a plastic Ikea box. Nothing else. And it's quite OK for home playing at least - and I'm pretty sure if I hook it up to a real cab and can turn the Baby Bomb up, it's gonna sound just fine.

Every recording I've made has been with my GT-8 and yes, you do have to mess around to get the sounds you want, (gosh those presets are just terrible!) but I use mine constantly - usually with headphones though.

For a homemade cab, that sounds very good! I'm impressed! I' haven't had as much success running the GT-8 into a power amp or speakers - I prefer my Eleven Rack for that.

Just spent a few hours dialing in sounds with my Blackstar as well. Basically, my main sound is just Blackstar straight, with just wah added when needed from the Boss. It works as a channel switcher, and provides volume cut, EQ and FX for clean channels. The fourth is solo, which is on clean channel with Crunch amp model on, and some EQ, mainly high-pass to 165hz, and midboost and low cut, and a bit of verb and delay. Works super well.

I also built another identical bank but using the Mooer baby bomb as an amp. Tried it with a 1x12 and a 2x12 and tweaked sounds until I got very close to what I get with Blackstar, but now with amp models from the boss.

The cleans are a bit dirtier as the Bomb doesn't do totally clean at all, but otherwise...well I could almost just as well only bring my guitar and the boss with the baby bomb to a gig, if they only have a guitar cabinet I can use.

I´ve read about it, some people complaining on the high gain/heavy sounds on the boss ME. Some say you can get good ones within context. I like the sounds you got.

One of the features I like about that GT-8 unit is the feedbacker effect. The bad thing for me, IIRC, is that GT-8s don´t have a USB connection for using them as audio interface, I would need a separate one. GT-8s are not exactly cheap, and if I need an interface to hook it to the PC and record, it´s just way out of my reach. But I´ve been liking those units from a good while (GT-8 and the ME80; the ME80 would be the perfect unit, except that it doesn´t have the feedbacker).

Anyway, I like the sounds you´re getting from your GT-8!

Yeah, you have to use MIDI for transfers. Of course - if you can get a GT-100 for instance on the cheap - and they can be had for as low as maybe around 100-140 bucks - it's obviously a better choice. The GT-8 is indeed dated in both its DI guitar sound capabilities as well as editing ease. But you can snatch these for like 80€ now, and it's a CRAZY good deal for what you get - a bullet proof and very capable MIDI controller as well as a huge array of good effects and pedal models. So it takes a little tweaking and needs a separate cab sim for proper DI sounds - who cares for this price If I can see another one for similar or even lower a price I'm snatching one for backup unit. Indeed just the MIDI controller board use is worth the price, easy!

Wow, I've been looking for used GT-100's and the cheapest I can find is around $300-$350 for them. I can't even find a GT-10 anywhere for $100. The GT-100's are still being sold new at $500, so I'd pick one up in a heartbeat for $100!

Thanks, that's kind of what I always aim for. My ideal sound is largely ACDC sound with a touch of Judas Priest Stained Class to it and a smidgen of grunge tone a la Alice In Chains.
