I have one. Expect to do some work on it. I like it fine now, but when I got it, you could feel how cheap it is. It has a photo flame, the bridge and pickups are terrible, and the fret sprout was really bad. The neck profile seems to get thinner as you play further up the neck.

I put in a set of Pure Custom Shop pickups from Ebay, filed the fret ends and nut slots, and had to search for a bridge that fit correctly. It plays and sounds great now, but I still can't get over the neck profile. I think if it were around $100 it would be more worth the price. Either way, if you like projects, it'll be some fun. Thanks for the link to the bridge. I expect to do some work so it’s not an issue. As long as the finish is good and the neck is straight I can take care of anything else.

Picked up a used Way Huge Pork Loin after listening to a ton of YouTube videos and reading a ton of reviews! I'd narrowed it down to the Pork Loin, the EHX Hot Wax, and the EHX Bass Soul Food, then to just the Pork Loin and Hot Wax since those are useful for both guitar and bass, and finally to the Pork Loin because it was more of the tone I was looking for. I'm really liking it - between the gain, blend, and curve controls, you have a lot of ability to tweak the sound to your liking. (And I haven't even gotten into the internal trim pots yet!) So far I've only tried it out for bass, and I'm really liking the way it gives a gritty edge to the fundamental sound without completely swamping it. I'm honestly not expecting to like it as much on guitar, because I usually go for a more intense overdrive on guitar, but I'm keeping an open mind!

EDIT: As I suspected, I don't care for it as much on guitar, but I bet that for somebody who preferred a milder overdrive, probably with single-coils, it might be really good.

yeah, the cut is under the bottom tape. originally i wanted to do it cleaner and not cut any tolex but i don't have a good way to do a 45 degree cut anyway so in the end i used a jigsaw (!) to cut it straight enough to glue (there's a little bit of extra structural integrity with wood panel on the back that was there already that i cut around and screwed to the sides). the two top pieces of tape are just cosmetic to make it kinda symmetric, they aren't covering anything.

could have been a whole lot cleaner if i had a table saw, but i didn't care a ton what it looked like and had a jigsaw so this is what i get. the grill was the hardest part really, i cut down the removable panel (usually goes over the tubes) from the back, salvaged the grill cloth from the speaker baffle and stapled it on that thing then wedged it in there. it already had the vent in the middle and was the right width so i just had to cut the height a little (again, though, with a fucking jigsaw).

I see a lot of people wanting to convert a combo to a head but I just don't get it. I barely get the idea of buying an amp as a head only unless its just so big you need split the package. There it saves a few bucks and a little space. But why chop up a combo? If you are always and I mean always going to use a cab you can pull the speaker and save most of the extra weight. Maybe if you wanted to craft a new solid oak head ver for the looks maybe. Any combo can be modded with a jack for a cab yet still keep it as a quick grab and go combo. So is there some other reason or purpose? Even after discounting how much lazier I must be than you I cant figure the math.

for me the speaker is kinda useless--i wouldn't ever use this amp in combo form since i already have one with a better speaker (eminence gb128)... so i figure instead of having the same amp twice it made more sense to have a more diverse setup and have one combo and one head. the head will likely stay with the cab and the other amps most of the time, the combo will be in a different physical location. i probably won't tote around the 2x12 cab much, but i liked the idea of being able to grab either the head or the combo depending on where i'm going. if i were any good at woodworking/carpentry i'd make a 1x12 cabinet and load it with the lighning bolt speaker i took out of the blues jr. i can't really see myself ever using the 70/80s i took out of the two monoprices, i guess i could try to sell them locally for $20 or something. i could have just pulled the speaker but i honestly don't like how the combo looks sitting on top of the cabinet more than anything, and it takes up extra space (and looks like a combo so if i took the speaker out and someone plugged something into it and turned it on without a cab plugged in there'd be trouble. still, it's probably 70% aesthetics and just wanting something different. it wasn't really much work, the hardest parts were purely cosmetic (getting the grill cloth to look good, getting the little rubber piece around that the right place and length, etc), and it would have been a whole lot easier if i had a real saw.

the tape had started to come loose, so i did wind up re-using some of the tolex over the slice. looks better at a distance now.

i bought a wrecked epiphone 12-string for $25; trying to revive it but it may not be worth the trouble. also bought a less-wrecked but cosmetically beat-up yamaha p/j bass. also ordered a b-stock orangewood mini (oliver jr spruce) when they had an outlet sale over the weekend and it should get here tomorrow.

Today I received a Mosky Golden Horse pedal. Supposed to be a cheap Klon clone. Never had a Klon clone. I had about 10 minutes to test it out. I need more time to play with it before passing judgement. It was cheap and I used a gift card so I'm not out much anyway.

I see a lot of people wanting to convert a combo to a head but I just don't get it. I barely get the idea of buying an amp as a head only unless its just so big you need split the package. There it saves a few bucks and a little space. But why chop up a combo? If you are always and I mean always going to use a cab you can pull the speaker and save most of the extra weight.

I seriously considered it back when I owned the Marshall SL-5. That combo was about 50 pounds and built large and heavy, so just pulling the speaker wouldn't have saved that much of the weight. And if I were going to plug into a different cabinet, I'd rather not cart around the bulk of the combo frame anyway.

I'll be very curious to hear your impressions. I had a Rimrock Mythical Overdrive, which is supposed to be one of the better Klones, for about 10 minutes before I decided if that's what Klons are like, then they're just not for me.

Just in from Sweetwater. Female XLR to 1/4" TRS. We're playing a TGIF gig on the 14th and we're using 2 Bose L1 Compact systems connected to my Bose Tonematch mixer. It has XLR outs to connect the big brother L1's, but our compacts only have 1/4" ins. I love Sweetwater!

The photos look almost like a natural top, but trust me....it's the Casino MG with a
Metallic Gold top. Sounds real good, plays real good, and looks real good. IMHO
I'm satisfied.

So I've had a little more time with it. I'm finding I like it more with my strat and tele with single coils than I do with my humbucker guitars.

the b-stock orangewood oliver jr showed up today. pretty happy with it--it's a little louder than the fender pm-te. no electronics, but i doubt if i'd ever use them anyway. i can't find the flaw that flagged it b-stock.

it's almost exactly the same dimensions as the fender, maybe a you-know-what-hair thinner and shorter.

It came in yesterday. There are no fret issues with this one. The pickups have to go and I’ll probably replace the bridge as a matter of personal preference. I’m satisfied with the guitar for what I paid.

I forgot to post my new edrum set. Probably shouldn't have but my drummer has been using if for the last few weeks running it through the PA and its really been nice. It was the low end alesis $100 used. Nothing great but shockingly functional. Much like most new cheap guitars. I'm thinking yours is a significant step up from mine.

Got some very exciting (tm) new stuff. Ordered a set of satin hardware for the AD-3200, knobs for it and for the Tempest, GraphTech saddles for both, and an upgraded bridge for my Ray4. Will do pics of the AD when I get it swapped over.
