Pandemia Escape series. Take #1: Santana´s Europa Cover

Having some minutes to escape somewhere work wonders in our souls in these pandemic times.

Could finally upload it to YT after several attempts - internet issues -.

Here I´m offering some escape minutes with one of my favorite classics: Santana´s Europa (one of my wife´s too). After practicing it again, I was able to do an acceptable performance – with all humbleness -, this is not the first attempt; I missed a couple of notes here and there, but I thought it was good enough to post. Tried to follow the original, but added some of my own flavor in some parts, as I always like to do with my covers.

Hope you enjoy it, and hoping the great enabler tobijohn is pleased knowing that the guitar is being used and accumulating travel miles on its playing odometer. My soul saved!

Here´s the preset adjustments (Fender Mustang I). Bridge PU for the whole song, except for the soft middle part. I managed to switch PUs without making unwanted noises after some practicing; took me a while! Neck PU around 2-3, bridge PU at full.

Crappy celphone video, audio recorded through Mustang´s USB port.

Backing track modified by me, I added the final part so it doesn´t end fading. I also added my own composition for the final 25 seconds to end the song.

I think I left the sound some miliseconds behind when I was combining video and audio, but that´s gonna be it!

As always, better with a good pair of headphones.

Very nice job on this Sabas. This song is one of my all time favorite guitar pieces - period.

So delicate, so soulful, sonic perfection by a master of the electric guitar. Thanks for the share.

Glad you liked it, Bob! Thanks! I got motivated to finally recorded it again because of your last comment about it when I posted it some years ago. So thank you for that.

And you described that song perfectly. There are some subtle nuances and details that make Santana´s playing kind of unique. It´s hard to replicate them.

Take care!

Super nice job! You definitely were channeling the Santana feel and sound, especially in the bends. Hope you're able to post more stuff, I think you may be another hidden gem on this site.

Thanks so much, man! Haha, I don´t think I have such a high appreciation about myself, but glad you liked it!

PS: By the way, belated congrats on your 50th, Dan!

Europa is one of the single greatest electric guitar pieces ever recorded, and you more than did it justice in your version sabasgr68. You made me want to learn this, which I mean as the greatest compliment.

Means a lot, John, thanks! Maybe you can get that eight seconds sustained/feedbacked note at around the 3 minute mark, since you record your guitar with a mic. Would love to hear yours if you ever do it.

It´s so great you still have my mug, Damon! Cheers!

Well, I´m sure my nerves will destroy me if we ever do that  You could not guess how many times I tried to get it done reasonably decent.

Yes, you can get some good overdriven tones out of it, to a certain limit.

Thanks, Damon!

Great job on the bends in this. And, I really enjoyed the fact that you threw your own stuff in there. I love hearing that kind of soloing rather than a straight copy. Great tone on it as well. Super job.
