These were like $400 shortly after they were new. Though I like mine, they were poo-pooed at the time as were many of the Tributes.

This is insane price for one that looks beat to hell (not that it takes a lot of effort with the ultra thin finish)

Maybe I need to visit selling mine if I can ask half as much and use this to comparatively show mine is a huge bargain...Image

Yeah it's important to remember that listed items are not sold items . Lots of looney tunes on Reverb, I just passed by a new listing where someone wanted $5K for a Warmoth partscaster with about $1200 in parts. SGJs tend to sell for $600-$700 on average these days depending on condition, upgrades, etc.

Yup. I kid you not - the listing is gone today, but yesterday I saw an SX guitar on Reverb asking $12,000.

:? $12,000?

There's a couple extra zeros on that price.

I was being facetious about selling mine.

It is just crazy seeing these lowest of the low end Gibson Tributes being listed at such idiotic prices.

Even $600 is too much for the SGJ/LPJ even if they were in pristine, and this one looks like a toddler went at it with a set of tools.

People do a lot of crazy things on the interwebz, but asking high prices for goods isn't really all that crazy. In the past 2 years think of the number of people that paid over sticker ( already inflated ) price for new vehicles. Or bidding wars above and beyond listing price for homes by first time home buyers.

Will this guy get $1200 for this guitar? Likely not but it's "worth" whatever the seller and eventual buyer agree upon.

I have one of the Crescent Moon inlay Faded SGs. My wife bought if for me as a bday present so I cannot sell it. I think it cost about $600 new and now they are going for $1200-$1300. They did not make many with the moon inlays and ebony board.

I think I'll put one of my guitars up for a ton of money who knows some idiot may buy it.

Rumor is that Gibson going increase their prices again in March'ish.

Never thought my guitars as an investment, but now I'm thinking of not passing them down to my children. :)

I have the exact same but sort of the leftovers model. They stopped wth the crescent but kept making it until they ran out of ebony fret boards. Mine still has the ebony like yours. I got mine as a backbowed borderline basket case with an ugly headstock repair and a backbow that almost didn't come out.
But hey it was $160 and I still play it alot recently and it's great. But I still have the truss rod just barely tightened beyond just keeping it from rattling.

They really were quite primative. I bought one of those $400 LPJs and was pretty disappointed. I sold it for what I paid shortly thereafter. It's one ofprobably less than a dozen guitars I've actually sold...

I had a couple, sold both LPJs for what I paid. The SGJ I sold, but USPS destroyed it because Gibson failed to glue the neck properly. I reset the neck and glued it correctly.

Now I am stuck with it...

I did swap the pickup covers/baseplates so it isn't so cheap looking at least.

sometimes stuff just goes crazy. i bought a used mim blacktop baritone telecaster a few years ago for $300 and i guess because fender doesn't make them the price went nuts. i probably won't sell it anyway though since i can't afford to replace it, lol.
