If you know me you know I am a BIG proponent of GC used...but sometimes they really have absolutely no idea what's going on (in a bad way, versus the good way where I grab a $3K custom guitar for $400).

Anyone wanna pay $400 for a used $120-ish SX strat? On the plus side, the seller made out like a bandit here

Looks like they reduced the price to $350. That's very magnanimous of Guitar Center Milbury. ;)

Nope hasn't been reduced yet, always been $350. I just said $400 cuz with tax and ship that's what it would be. They're nice, but they're not THAT nice

I'm sure it'll continue going down in coming months till it gets well under $200 and someone grabs it.

I drove past that GC twice yesterday. I was tempted to make a pit stop. Now I’m glad I didn’t…

Don't let it throw you off GC used in general, that place is an absolute goldmine. They goof in the win direction much more than the fail direction

Yea I second that @slowhand84 , it goes both ways, and in both cases it's because the listing person doesn't know what he's got....

....sometimes pricing is ridiculous high, and sometimes you can snag great deals.

I've done both!

Yeah about 90% of my guitars are from GC used, lots of $2K-$3K guitars for as little as $300. Just gotta browse fairly often and be ready to pull the trigger :D

They seem unable to differentiate between made in Indonesia PRS SE standards, and Made in the USA PRS S2's. I've seen 4 of those SE's mis-labeled and priced like the S2 (ie higher than the new price of the SE's).

Yep not surprised, I've purchased several high end MIJ Jacksons there for chump change because they couldn't tell the difference between them and the lowest end Indonesian ones. It just depends on the store and who's working there, some GC employees are actually fairly knowledgeable about stuff and some are absolutely clueless which is when you can score big.

I don’t think one bad listing would put me off the store. 👍 I have very little guitar gas right now anyway …

I have no idea how GC comes up with the prices for used Agile and SX guitars. The rest of their used gear prices range from fair to awesome, but for some reason they consistently over-price those brands. I know they check ebay and Reverb for used values, but do they check the sold listings? Everybody tries to get upwards of $300 for an SX because it's "rare", or it's "custom hand-made", or it's got GFS pickups and a "professional set-up", but if you look at the sold listings, nobody's paying more than $150 for these guitars.

They actually overprice them about as often as they underprice them. Most of my Agiles were bought from GC used and included a Harm for $100, a custom shop AS1000 for $199, a custom shop AL3200 for $220, an Agile Epic for $250 (the $600 one with Fishmans), etc.

Generally speaking their prices on Agiles are "OK", but you'll see these extreme outliers too where it's either too much or too little. It seems like lately they have just been going by what the gear is priced at on Reverb but not necessarily sold listings, which of course is silly. I wanted to buy a used pedal from one of their stores yesterday that they have listed at $180 (so it would be over $200 after tax and ship) and it's $199 brand new. Sold listings show them going for $120-$130, but current live listings on Reverb have two of 'em at $180 so I'm guessing that's what they used to make that decision

To be honest, I've never gone looking for SX or Agile on GC used. I've only stumbled across them when I was looking for something else, and over the last few years I've only come across a couple that were priced fairly... Maybe I should be more proactive.

But then again, maybe a I shouldn't. :D

I have no interest in SX at all, Agile I used to browse for every so often, but mostly I'm hunting for other higher end stuff. That said I absolutely don't regret my previous Agile hunts...that custom AS-1000 I mentioned is one of my very favorite guitars.

Well, that's the problem. The good deals are snatched up fairly quickly, sometimes within a couple hours of going up. The bad deals linger for months (or years in some cases!)
If you randomly look for one every once in a while, chances are you will only see the bad deals.
