I give you: The "Scran" (which is a food-related term from across the pond). It's a Marshall-in-a-box.
Six knobs. All of them stupidly named. The pedal simply stacks mildly different gains. I wish the instructions said that. Oh wait, there weren't any included but at least the online explanations further complicated matters.
It sounds ok in the light OD department but delivers some delicious saturated goodness when the knobs are at noon. Further knobbing gets me into fuzz territory.
Conclusion: Thumbs-up for crunchy-to-creamy tones and thumbs down for the stupid knob names and lack of instructions from the manufacturer.
Disclaimer: I am using it mostly to play along with Oasis songs (my fav) but the pedal lends itself well any genre that uses Marshall JCM 800-type of tones. No effects anywhere in the recording.

My latest thing is a cover for my Bose L1 Pro 8 PA system. Seems like it should have been included with the unit but it wasn't.

A few days ago, I put some humbucker-sized P90s in my Douglas semi-hollow.
These are from GuitarMadness. I like them.

Not guitar related but got this so I could have something to mess around with that was good quality but small enough that I could play it while doing other things, a big psychological problem for me learning how to play much on full sized units. I don't have the attention span to sit at a drum kit or a piano long enough to even get halfway decent at them.
It’s a Yamaha Reface CP. It’s pretty much exclusively for electric piano tones (think Rhodes or Wurlitzer) although I just found out yesterday there’s a sort of hidden acoustic piano sound also. I got it last week, really enjoying it so far. My technique on keys is awful and my arms get tired quickly on real pianos so the size is a benefit for me being able to lay down backing tracks and to see more clearly than on guitar how things fit together (it’s just more obvious to me on a keyboard where you immediately can see everything all at once than on a guitar where I have to think about the intervals more). I’m hoping it can both be practical as a tool and just to get a better intuition for what works in that medium to help be become a better musician and guitarist. Don’t know if it will work though.

Thank you!
Thank you!
Buy a Reverend Sentinal Bass. Since I'm playing bass in a band now, I decided to treat myself to a really good one. My Fender Mustang is great, but I find the body uncomfortable. The fat guys here with slab body guitars know what I'm talking about! That picking hand inside forearm thing.
Anyway, I did some shopping and landed on another Rev. It's freaking spectacular. Short scale, amazing sound, plays like butter.
Sorry about the rotated images. Not sure how to fix that in this editor...
Just curious I think they sell a ceramic and an Alnico version of this pickup -which are yours? Also - love the guitar!peskypesky1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:59 pm A few days ago, I put some humbucker-sized P90s in my Douglas semi-hollow.

Today I traded in a Taylor Academy 10 for a Martin D-10E Road Series. The Taylor ran off of 1032 batteries and I hate that. They seem to lose "umph" quickly and getting those suckers out of the package requires a tool. I actually needed them replaced at a gig and I had some spares but could not get them out of the packaging until finally someone had a knife. After that I bought a pair of kids school scissors and kept them in the pouch. The new models run off of 9V batteries. They made a limited run of Academy models made from walnut that ran off of 9V batteries and I was able to get one so the original was on the block. I have a Martin DRS-1 made of solid sapele (mahogany) and I love it! It is my #1 gigging acoustic for the solo act. The D-10E is basically the same guitar with larger fret dots (standard siand it has the sound hole tuner. Also the neck on the DRS1 is some sort of neck they call stratabond. The neck on the new D-10 looks to be mahogany and seems to be slightly lighter as a result. I need to weigh them.

I need to weigh them. They feel the same, the fretboard is the same material and dimension specs as far as I can tell.
I love my DRS1 and I emailed Martin to ask if they would install the new sound hole tuner in it if I sent it to them but they never answered. So I decided to get the newer version with the tuner. I think the voicing is slightly brighter but I am hoping it will mellow over time. It is definitely more mid-rangy than a spruce top though so that is good. I will take it to the gig tomorrow night and run it through the gears.
I did the deal at the Ocala GC, they gave me the exact minimum I was willing to take for the guitar. They also gave me 10% off the sticker price of the Martin. I was pleased with the deal. I bought the Taylor for just under $600, used it at least 50 gigs with the band and ended up getting almost $400 towards the Martin.

Funny about that battery packaging...I just replaced the battery in my Suzuki Keyfob, a CR2032...and of course I'm at the store parking lot without a scissors or knife..arghhh. They used to put them in a pack with the perforated cardboard backings..so it was easy to pry out..now it's like they're afraid of the Tylenol Killer switching them out for some cyanide tabs. I guess it's the kids who swallow them that we have to thank for it...damned kids...aren't TidePods enough ?
Picked this up on the local used market, Eastman E20D-TC for a fair price:
I knew pretty much what to expect, I have three other Eastman acoustics (E10D, E6OM, AC630BD). They are all kind of high quality modified clones of other guitars. I have a Martin HD28 as well. The Eastman feels different, the neck is rounder, and it doesn’t sound identical but they sound far more alike than say the E10D does (that one is a sonic cannon). Most of my dreadnoughts are actually rosewood bodies, so it fits right in. I mostly wanted it so I could have not a beater but a less precious version of that guitar (about to put it in its case for the rest of the winter).
I was very curious what the TC (thermo-curing, roasting basically) would feel/sound like, the E10D has the same Adirondack top but untreated. I think it does make a difference but it’s definitely not a night and day difference. Those two guitars are very different though, and I don’t have a non-TC E20D to compare.
It’s comparable and half as expensive so hard to argue. The prior owner slapped a K&K Pure Mini inside it, which means I don’t have to so that’s a bonus.
I’ll try it out at tonight’s jam.

Picked up this Neat Worker Bee for $30 the other day. It’s a very nice sounding medium sized capsule condenser mic. Love the style too.

Finally bought a Gibson. It's a 2024 Studio husk I'm gonna make a poor man's Yardburst. Only thing I didnt have was a bridge. Stupid me ordered an ABR while this came stock with a Nashville. I assumed the bridge anchors/posts were SAE. Nope. M5. Is that right?
Bought a LP wiring harness from tobijohn about 10yrs ago that's finally going somewhere.
Anyway, here it is in shit lighting...

That's strange, I always thought Gibson stuff was SAE, at least It is on the ones I have, but then they're all over ten years old.idiotsdelight wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 3:22 am Finally bought a Gibson. I haven't used my harness yet, either. If you want to put off using yours for another decade, I'm pretty sure I have one of those right-handed Gibson control plate with the pots and caps attached. I'll be happy to send off gratis, just let me know...

I read they did this a few yrs back, from my understanding when they started specing nashville bridges. Theres readily available of conversion posts so it's not that big of a deal.
I'll try to dig it out this weekend and do some measuring. It definitely won't fit an Agile but hopefully it could work for your Studio, and you can use the harness in the Agile...

Take the post to a Home Depot or Lowes and use the thread finder to find the right answer. M5 has a universal standard thread pitch and SAE unfortunately can have two or three. If it is M5, it is likely that the hardware isn't original.idiotsdelight wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 3:22 am "I assumed the bridge anchors/posts were SAE. Nope. M5. Is that right?"
