I've been using zoom since the early 90s. I've had boss digitech and DOD
But by far the most useful has been my vox tonelab.
The tones are very organic and tube like. It can do almost anything you may consider. I now have it plugged into my boss katana and it beats all that amp can try to do. I will try to get another as a back up.
Do you have/use a Multi effects/modeler unit? Which one?

To follow up: the plug has become increasingly loose in the body of the mini multi effects plugin setup, but I have found a workaround of using a guitar cord plugged into a female to female adapter to allow it to sit on my lap so that I can see the tuner and change settings without disturbing the jack and risking it loosening up more.honyock wrote:It feels sturdy enough for what it is. I did not have success loading IRs though. Not sure if it was operator error, bad IR files, or the device itself needing special IR files.
Only thing that annoys me is I can't use it with a Strat without some sort of male to female extension due to the location of the knobs relative the jack. (Righties wouldn't have this problem...)

Also, does it feel plastic cheap, like it would fall apart at any moment, or does it feels solid enough? Thanks again!
Micro USB for power and connection to allow recording are pretty standard as is the 3.5mm jack. No different than any Android up to the USB C change.
The 1/4" jack does have the chamfered surface where it goes into the body that should make it more sturdy than a Amplug for instance. Not sure how they connect to the PCB, but I imagine as long as you aren't leaving it plugged in and dropping it on the plug off a stand, or banging it into a door frame too hard, it will hold up to normal use just fine.

As far as modelers, I sold the Zoom G3xN and bought a Mooer GE300 Lite. I was intrigued by Kemper, but I didn't want to spend that much at the time since I bought a new vehicle for the 1st time in almost a decade.
The Mooer has the ability to tone capture that I haven't tried due to the amount of time I have been spending at work.
I do really use the Mooer more than I was using all my other amps because I have it set up to conveniently play while I watch videos and with the monitors or headphones it sounds pretty much the same no matter what volume

Which Vox Tonelab model ? There are several, some earlier ones much better than later incarnations. I have always liked them....toying with trying to find an older one used somewhereTglo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 2:43 pm I've been using zoom since the early 90s. I've had boss digitech and DOD

You sound as good as anyone on this channel. There is something to be said about knowing a piece of gear inside and out. At the end of the day were just making noise anyway. Ha.

I seem to attract modeling amps. I have a Fender G-Dec (which I like), a Mustang I V2 (which I also like), A Roland Microcube (not sure if this is a modeling amp per se), and most recently I picked up a Vox Valvetronix AD30VT. I found the Vox at a yard sale in "non-working" condition for $30. A $4 part and some elbow grease and it's playing great. The VOX modeling stuff seems to go cheap in the used market - wouldn't mind trying out one of the newer cambridge models sometime.

I am seeing more guitarists out and about using pedal amps or processors directly into a speaker cab or PA. Makes for a pretty clean stage. I see the attraction when it comes to lugging amps. To my ear nothing sounds as good as a nice tube amp but honestly it took me years to hone my ear to that distinction and in general the audience could not care less about how much effort we put into tone.

Since I initially posted to this thread, I bought An HX Stomp XL. It's so damn capable that I can't figure it out and revert to the 11Rack.
I am going to try copying my fave 11Rack tones on the Stomp. If I am not successful, I might sell the Stomp and get something less complicated.

It's the big one with twin pedals one volume and one for mod. It heavy and sounds killer. The funny thing was I used it with my behringer gmx vtone and blew out channel 1. That old amp can't deal with the powerful vox.Tonray's Ghost wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 9:14 pmWhich Vox Tonelab model ? There are several, some earlier ones much better than later incarnations. Yup I tried going through line out, but the sound of good speakers can't be beat. The punch and warmth is needed and direct looses that.tonebender wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:18 pm I am seeing more guitarists out and about using pedal amps or processors directly into a speaker cab or PA. I am starting to get more comfortable with the Stomp. I just wish it had a Bogner Ecstasy model on it (it has the Uberschall) with the Bogner 2x12 cab. All of my best 11Rack tones use that combination.
Part of the issue is I have never used much in the way of effects,so I don't know how to work them well.

I use Ampire in Presonus Studio One to great effect (pun intended) when recording. And I am building a dual overdrive. That is as close as I get to multi-effects.
Otherwise it is guitar and amp, or also with individual pedals. The multi-analog pedals have the draw back of 'what happens when you only like and use one or a few of the choices?' And as we all know, pedals are a rabbit hole (today's fishing lures for guitarists).
Nothing against multi-effects units, other than the one thing that I believe they all have in common: the presets on the digital offerings are heavy on effect. For me, effects are 'spice' vs. 'an instrument on their own.' Additionally, I use the full range of volume and tone knobs which brings in different interplay with devices. IMHO multi-effects typically do not have the same interaction (which sometimes is good and sometimes, not).

I've had several multi-effects pedals, most recently a Zoom pedal which I liked a lot, but it got to where I was just fiddling with it more than setting it up and playing. I sold it. Now it's just a few stomps into a clean amp, but I do have one of the Joyo American Sound sim/stomp pedal, which can go from blackface Fender to tweed with the turn of a knob, and it's a great pedal which I'm pretty happy with. I can put it in front of a 6V6 combo here and it sounds great, and in front of a little SS combo and it sounds great.

UPDATE: I now have a Zoom G3xn multi-effects pedal (thanks to some AGFers kindness). Although I´m still learning to use it and to adjust parameters and the such - factory presets almost always s*ck -, I´m liking its sounds, features and versatility. I can get more heavier sounds, I tweaked some decent-enough acoustic guitar sims, and even a bass sim that doesn´t sound bad; all these features missed on the Mustang. Within certain limits I can have a better management of some covers or musical ideas that come to my mind with the acoustic and bass sims, knowing they are not "the real thing", but for a bedroom player like me, with limitations to get/have some gear and equipment, the Zoom represents a big step forward . Also, the three switches and stomp/memory modes provide a more versatil and practical use than the Mustang (poor Mustang... I still think It´s a nice amp, it just doesn´t completely fit the bill in some areas).
As @jhull54 said, the initial phase will involve a lot of tweaking and experimenting sounds with amps, effects, cabinets, etc - which can be boresome at some point -, but once I have the sounds I want, the playing time will be increased and the tweaking time almost gone - hope so! -. I just wanna have something like a half dozen "base sounds" that I can use, with some variations when turning some effects on or off; I don´t want or need 80 different presets!
Also, there´s the Tonelib site to try other user´s presets.
So, I think I have no more excuses to put off playing the guitar again! (Troubles will still be there whether I play or not, so, why I keep on not playing because of that? )

Yes it's like the 13 year old me programmed all the default effects settings.andrewsrea wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 10:30 am I use Ampire in Presonus Studio One to great effect (pun intended) when recording. And I am building a dual overdrive. That is as close as I get to multi-effects.

As an update I'm more and more impressed with the vox vt40x amp. It was oly a few days ago I FINALLY loaded up toneroom sw and used it to program and play with the amp. It really made it fun and easy. It's also a great tool to learn tone. So easy to A/B settings and effects.
Then it turns out the next day my group wanted to play Those Shoes by eagles. I don't have a talk box and didn't want to rig up a wah but played with toneroom and tweaked The flanger and wa la. Close enough for a federal contractor.
This has made me interested in the 5 button control pedal but really for the price I'm wondering about the much more footable tone lab w experience pedal and dozens of presets.
Sadly I'm thinking my fender floor won't be cutting it any more. I've never got along with it much and fender has completely abandoned the software to the point they won't even offer a download and all the user nfo on patches were deleted.
I like the graband go of the vt40 but I really need a foot pedal control. once you add that it might as well be fully capable and have a exp pedal.
I know the vox tonelab is also getting old. Anything out there that has most of the simplicity but has even better tones and maybe allows 4 or 5 effects in the chain?
