Undoubtedly... And it's easy to say: "well, I'd pay $50 or $100 more if it sounded this good... why didn't they just bump up the price a little?", but they set the price point and tier that every one of their products will occupy before they're even designed, and they have to stick to that. Otherwise, their pricing structure would be all over the place. But still... When you find out that one simple change can turn a good product into a frickin' GREAT product, you have to wonder, why didn't they do it? If they had planned from the beginning for this to be a $500 product instead of a $400 product, and presented this amp to the market in all its glory, I think it would have done exceedingly well. Especially when there's very little that distinguishes the X2 from its XD predecessor other than a USB port and the ability to use the Fuse software. This was a perfect opportunity for them to make the X2 a true upgrade from the previous model, but they decided to change the name, and keep it mostly the same. I know they were trying to make an affordable tube amp, but I think a $500 tube amp can still wear the "affordable" moniker. I've also considered that they probably didn't want to cannibalize their Mustang market. I used to own a Mustang II and loved it, but after I got the Super Champ, I thought it ate the Mustang's lunch, even with the stock speaker. I know if I had heard this amp with a good speaker right from the start, I'd never look at another Mustang.mozz wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 6:09 pm "Yeah, this is such a fantastic amp, it's a shame that Fender decided to utterly cripple it with that shitty speaker. I can't help but think if Fender put something half-way decent in this amp, they would have sold a lot more of them. They'd probably still be making them today... Or maybe we'd be up the X3 or X4 by now. "
Well, seeing this first hand it's more like this. Engineering wants good speakers and other good parts. Marketing says no, cost too much. ( OH, OUR PROFIT MARGINS!)
Resistors, caps, wire, screws, cost a fraction of a cent each. Speakers, transformers, cost $$$$$$$ major dollars (a few dollars) so they will not spend the money on those building the items.
I'm actually starting to seriously consider trying to fix my Mustang, and put a better speaker in it to see how it stands up to the SC.
Weber will break in your speaker for you, but you have to request it (I did). I have no idea if Eminence speakers are broken in... I assumed they weren't, since I've never heard anybody say that they were... but when I was doing my research and the Jensens were described as being bright, or stiff, it was usually in the context of general characteristics, when compared to other, similar speakers. Not the out-of-box experience.
