I must say I had never considered this brand although I had seen them around over the years. It is not sheets, or a water bill and I think it is made in Indonesia, which I consider the new South Korea in the foreign instrument market or it may be made in South Korea as it is a South Korean company. Ultimately I am looking for it to fill niche need and as long as it does I don't care where it is made. Some of these manufacturers make them in multiple countries including China but then list then as made in South Korea (hello Harley Benton).

FOOLED AGAIN!!! Clearly it is made in China. WOW, even the Koreans are making guitars in China. It needed a set up badly. The Fishman pickup system sounds good. It felt weird for the first half and hour or so but seemed to settle in. The radius on the fretboard is fairly flat. I was looking for a wall hanger to practice with. I keep the gigging guitars in their cases and put away when they are not out working. It does have a nice enough voicing, more mid-range than bright, as I would expect from an all mahogany construction, back, sides and top. I do not like a bright cannon like some prefer. It will serve me well when practicing the solo acoustic show. I was hoping it was made in Korea or Indonesia but NOT. It seems well made and is supposedly a B Stock but I do not know why and the ad did not specify any flaw. The box was not taped shut on the bottom end, which was odd. It was either opened at the warehouse and shipped that way or someone opened it along the way to me. It is the last import I will ever purchase.


It is a Cort CORE DC All Mahogany. Not something I will gig with but It is better than the HB all mahogany. I will sell that to someone cheap just to get rid of it. Don't get me wrong the HB is well made and plays nice, I just do not like the voicing. Someone else may love it. I am very peculiar about what I like in the way an acoustic sounds. I can walk down the row and strum each once and know if I like it.

Cort was the premier Korean guitar factory, which once made Epiphones, Fenders, Ibanez and countless others. I too am surprised that they went to China.

You know me all too well Tommy. I was careful to make sure the nut width is 43mm (1.69 in), which is what I prefer. I have two Martins that look and sound identical but the nut width on one is a little wider than 43mm and going back and forth is disconcerting. I find myself being slightly inaccurate at times when fingering chords.

I have put in some time now with this Cort and I will say it will serve be well as something to grab off the wall for some practice but it is nowhere near a Mexican made Martin or Taylor. It is not on par with a comparable Eastman in price and materials that I played a while back but the Eastman neck was too wide for me at the nut. It is not on par with Mahogany Guild import in the same price range either. The Guild nut width did not work for me either.

The wider nut width works fine if that is all I play and it can be ever so lightly wider but so many are 1.75 inches. My Martin DRS1 is my absolute favorite acoustic and I play it so much that it is hard to switch back and forth with a wider nut model.

I will give this Cort a 6 out 10, so mediocre at best. I would refrain from recommending this model even at the reduced B Stock price that I paid. Disappointing because the reviews on youtube were very good. The voicing is the saving grace. I do like the way it sounds and that is very important when doing a solo show and singing 30-40 songs. To me anyway.

I get around that kind of thing by having a bunch of guitars and playing them all regularly.

Now that I have many hours on this Cort, I must say it is growing on me. I have never seen a brand new acoustic settle so much in such a short time. I have extra light Martins on it (10s), my strings of choice and it plays so soft, just like my favorite Martin. The voicing is also very close maybe just a tinge pingier high on the 1st and 2nd strings. The Martin is so mellow even the little strings. The first few days I was thinking there could be tuner issues but now it seems to keep tune. It appears to have the same Fishman that is in my Martin and I am thinking I can take it as a back up to the gigs. I will check it out when I get there but I think no adjustments would be necessary if I have to grab it. When I have had to switch to a Taylor or a Gibson back up, I have to make so EQ adjustments. I should be able to swap it in and keep rolling.

I agree and I am quite surprised. Normally I can assess an acoustic pretty quickly and that assessment usually sticks. I know acoustics can get better with age but I would think that is more applicable to higher end makes. I change my initial rating from 6 out of a 10 to 7 out of a 10. Keep in mind that rating is on the curve and only relevant in my little mind to comparable priced import guitars.
