It looks like not only is the end of the fret lifted, but that the nib has separated from the rest of the binding. It'll be interesting to see how they fix that.

I'ld bring it to Gibson and demand that they press and glue it down, and make sure all the frets are level after that. They may have to do full fret level. Maybe they can plek it? I'ld suggest it to them. Should be routine for them to make it play beautifully, whereas once you try to repair it, could be grounds for them to balk.

It should have come playing beautifully, "Its a new Gibson" is the line I'ld keep repeating to them until its perfect.

@Partscaster I'm gonna approve my credit from Zzounds, and then I'm going to hit up Gibson for sure, they have an authorized service center in Florence KY, it's just an hour and a half-ish away so I'll definitely be going up there as soon as I can get an appointment.

Well Zzounds offered me a whole $100 credit, I'm tempted to make a stink and try to get more than that out of em. But of course, I can still take the guitar to the Gibson service center and have it repaired.

@glasshand I've never actually been to Florence, just passed by on the interstate a few times, it looks like a pretty place from what I've seen though, and that water tower gives me a chuckle every time I see it . Once I get to Georgetown I'm pretty much in unknown territory lol.
I know the Fayette, Madison, Garrard, Rockcastle, Jackson, Estill, Lee, Breathitt, areas pretty well.

I'm also a Megadeth fan and I'm glad Dave went with a traditional V body, because I like the look better than the Jackson and Dean modern V shapes.

Still waiting to hear back from Gibson so I can schedule the repair, submitted a request on Friday, recieved an email saying they'd contact me within two days. Figured I'd have an email from them actually regarding my request this morning, but so far nothing. Waiting to hear back from them before I accept Zzounds $100 credit.


Anyway, on the positive side of things, I've been playing this thing everyday for no less than 3 hours (honestly over 6 on a few days), it's still in tune when I take it out of the case. Which is super refreshing as I've been dealing with some persistent tuning stability issues for the last few years on my LTDs and Agile. But I can actually just feel the urge to play, and grab this guitar and just play, without having to tune down, stretch the strings and tune back up for the 100000000th time. And I don't have to retune mid jam either, it's so refreshing!
The weight distribution is ridiculous, it just kinda floats on the strap and sits however I leave it after grabbing it, no nose dives, it's just in a state of physical equilibrium.
The Thrash Factor pickup is ridiculously hot, I fired up the Orange and when I really dig into the strings the output is so hot it's almost like having a slight fuzz or extra spicy OD. It's super dynamic with the volume pot though, tapers down beautifully, stays clear and defined. The 59 after more time with it, is still just as smooth and creamy as a 59 almost always is. The clean tone from either pickup and the middle position is nice and warm with solid dynamics and great sustain, harmonics, both natural and the pinched variety really pop and sing too. The tone pot doesn't just feel like easing a blanket over the amp, which is nice.
Post setup, the neck feels even better than my initial reaction, the notes basically just fall off and pop out when I think about hitting them.

It'll be interesting to see how they fix that.

In this order: brass hammer, super glue, acetone to re-melt the nib. It is an artform to perform the latter without effecting the surrounding finish.

Hopefully I hear back tomorrow from Gibson and I can take it up to Florence and have it fixed in a reasonable amount of time.
