All the electric guitars on this track are the Sterling Sub Silo 3, which is obviously a copy of the Ernie Ball Music Man Silloutte. It's an outstanding budget instrument with some notable features, including an asymmetrical neck carve and truss rod wheel at the heel.

The middle and neck single coil are constructed in the same manner as MIM Fender single coils, meaning, with split ceramic magnets. You can hear how they sound on the track, which is clear, glassy, and oh-so-quacky. I'm less enamored of the bridge humbucker, which has a ceramic bar magnet and resistance in the SD JB range. I switched the magnet out for an A2, which did soften the hard edge a bit, though it still sounds too overly compressed for my taste.

The swirly effect on the guitar is an MXR Custom Shop '74 Vintage Phase 90. Old school, battery power only, no LED . . . but its got that sound. If you know, then you know.

That guitar does a Strat better than a Strat.

I know, that's crazy isn't it? Those split ceramic magnet single coils can sound amazing. I've encountered them in, of course, Fender MIM Strats, but also in Squier Affinitys, a Cort Panther, and a Yamaha Eterna (big box store branding of a Pacifica), and to my ears they always sound superior to single ceramic bar magnet single coils.

The Sterling Sub Silo 3 has been discontinued, though I believe it retailed for about $200 new. I got mine dirt cheap, I believe because the seller thought it was a kid's instrument. Even though it's full 25.5" scale it gives the impression of being much smaller.

Dang...after having to roust fighting ferals every night this week at 3 AM, and watching my newly landscaped front garden with coconut husk mulch become a defacto litter box, I was seriously hoping you had opened a cat herding service company. I was gonna fly you and your team down to Thailand to take care of this for me...but the song is pretty good too.

I always thought the Music Man looked small too but it really isn't.

Sterling Sub Silo 3 next to a Squier Stratocaster.

Sounds great TMC it's definitely top notch in the tone department and it's black and IMO that makes it mark way high on apperance as well.
