I'd have to assume the extra toggle is there to select individual or sets of pickups without having to use the volume controls. There are usually three volumes and a master tone on three pickup guitars with only a single toggle switch. For example, the middle position on the toggle would have all three pickups on and to isolate any of them, the volume on the other two would be turned down to 0.

. . . or maybe to unground Roger's microphone. If memory serves correctly Pete and Roger had actual physical altercations onstage.

A quick online search reveals that "3" was at one time on display at the Hard Rock Vault, Orlando, Florida. Can anybody confirm whether it is still there?

If I remember correctly, the top toggle is the standard wiring - choose the bridge, combo or neck. The toggle closest to the tail piece was to choose standard wiring, standard + middle, and middle only. The last one was a kill switch.
