Yeah, they're just checkered boxers. After I made this video and showed it to the Lady of the house for her approval before uploading to YouTube she said, "It looks like you're wearing a kilt." I personally think it kinda turned her on. But that shall be determined later. However, I think there is some sort of unwritten YouTube rule about not demoing guitars while sitting and wearing shorts. Oh well, I violated that one apparently.

But on to the relevant bits. This is the 2010 Schecter Solo 6 Custom I bought at a pawn shop not too long ago. It's this one:

Let me tell you, this is an awesome guitar. Playability is off the chart with the stellar fretwork, ebony board, and compound radius. The tone is to die for with the Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge and the '59 in the neck. With the coil splitting I can get Tele-like tones in the middle position and P90ish tones out of half of the hot bridge bucker. On top of that, it is a gorgeous instrument. I should be gigging this thing! But I'll tell you guys a little secret, and let's keep it between us . . . I'm a closet headstock snob and I like to play my Gibsons in public. But the fact is, this Schecter sounds as good as my Gibsons, and is in fact more versatile, as well as more playable. So there it is, I've said it.

Thanks man. It was only recently that I learned a Carlos Santana solo note for note, and it was a very insightful endeavor. For starters, the genius of the man's playing is astounding. It's evident in his instantly recognizable phrasing and tone, in the economy of the notes he carefully chooses and the space he leaves between them, and in the slightly "off" timing with which he places a melodic phrase.

The other thing learning this song drove home was how much of Carlos is in some of my other favorite guitar players. I hear a lot of him in Neal Schon, which is understandable given that Neal was in Santana for a time. I also hear a lot of Carlos in Prince's guitar soloing.

I've always been curious about these Schecters. Does anyone have any experience with both Shecter Solo and LTD EC-1000? I love my Schecter super strats and also my LTD EC-1000s. I'm curious how the two single cuts match up together. I would hypothesize that they're very similar in quality and feel and any differences would be down to personal preference, but I'd like to hear people's experience between the two.

Congrats. I have always wanted one of these. The two Schecters I have owned have been outstanding guitars.
My playing is always better after some good beer

Great cover, and great guitar. If you ever get tired of that Schecter, throw it down here!

That song is also on my list to learn, but sadly that list is growing too long, andt my time to do it is growing too short...

Nothing wrong with playing guitar in a kilt :) I've got a half dozen that are comfy. And yes...the ladies tend to think it's classy or somethin' (I don't get it, but I'm not arguing).

Love hearing you play and demo gear.

That's high praise coming from someone who I've heard play an incredible cover of Santana's "Europa". Thank you!

Sounds good, great playing! Schecter makes some great guitars. It's too bad most of them are a little too "metal" for me. I'd like to try a 'PT', being the Tele fan that I am, but I've never seen one in a store.

And there's no shame in wearing in a kilt. This is me on St. Patrick's Day when I lived in Flagstaff, AZ, back in 2001 (Yeash! I can't believe it's been 20 years!).

Nah, it was just for St. Patrick's day... But I'm no stranger to such events.

Fun fact: I was on a first date that night (not with the woman in the photo, she was taking the picture). I picked her up fully kilted, as it takes some doing to put one of those on. She thought I was a kook, but she liked my confidence (it wasn't our last date :D ).
