Re: AGF Evolution?
I've bought a few guitars and a bass in the last year or so. Largely, I don't get a lot of GAS outside of guitars since I know I have all the amp tones and effects I need in my Axe FX III. I still check this site regularly, but I have more ability to contribute to conversations in the Fractal Audio ...

Re: Opinion: The death of the amp
As a fan of Fractal units and very much a modeler guy myself, I would NOT say that it's the death of the amp coming any time soon. I can see the appeal of real amps, but I'll stick to my high-end modelers. That said, I've been playing the role of live sound engineer more than I have been a guitarist...

Re: SOME GIGS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS
Thanks for sharing! I can relate. An added correlation that we've found is that the best-paying gigs tend to also be the ones with the best audiences and the most fun, and how much you get paid doesn't actually factor into the fun factor.

Re: It's Analysis Paralysis Time Again! (Microphone Edition)
And thus begins a new classic AGF rivalry... V7 vs V7x... GO TEAM V7!!! We should make jackets... But really, Glad to hear you've found a happy place on your mic journey! And I can imagine the V7x working better for voiceovers from all this research. Naturally an EQ curve for a standalone broadcast ...

Dang, that is really tempting... I don't have any P90 guitars... If it was that liquid with 3 P90s that I keep eyeing that was on sale as well, I'd probably be pulling the trigger

Re: It's Analysis Paralysis Time Again! (Microphone Edition)
I did receive my V7. Haven't really put it to the test yet. Did a quick recording talking into both it and my MXL V67G Condenser that I keep on a desktop stand for video/voice chats. Honestly, in the little bit of A/B-ing I did, I was surprised how similar the results were. I think it's a good thing...

Happy NGD! I never paid attention to the extra switches on Jaguars. I just did some light reading on them and I'm still confused because I see different switch possibilities. Regardless, it definitely has intrigued me. I see myself joining the Jaguar club some day!

Re: It's Analysis Paralysis Time Again! (Microphone Edition)
I didn't see this diagram as a noise rejection profile, I saw it as a sensitivity graph, and I don't understand why certain frequencies are represented on one side of the polar pattern and not the other. First of all, I'm no microphone expert either, and using my engineering background to feel conf...

Re: It's Analysis Paralysis Time Again! (Microphone Edition)
I'm also kinda confused by that V7 polar pattern graph with the different frequencies indicated, but after seeing the noise rejection demonstrated in review videos, I'm not going to think about it too much. :) Once I realized that frequencies are only shown on EITHER the left or right side of the p...

Nice job! Which video camera did you use? I think I remember you using a Zoom recorder. Was it the Q2N-4k by any chance?

Re: It's Analysis Paralysis Time Again! (Microphone Edition)
Out of curiosity, I also looked for Heil PR-22 reviews on YouTube and was disappointed in the quality of the videos. My favorite (worst) video was a phone video of people in a music shop singing into a Heil and then a Shure into a PA, all recorded as a phone video... Yeah, that helped... BUT, I just...

Re: It's Analysis Paralysis Time Again! (Microphone Edition)
I'm moreso commenting to follow you on your journey in this more than anything. I've wanted an SM7 for years for recording aggressive vocals but haven't been able to justify spending $400 on the mic plus another $100 for something like a cloud lifter for the level of recording I've been doing. I do ...

Re: Bass Guitar Pot Question: 250K vs 500K
Well the good news is that the pots and output jack came today and I rewired everything. Had the joy of having to re-run the ground wire to the bridge because I accidentally yanked the old one out. I also forgot how much of a pain it is stuffing wires into the cavity of a pickguard guitar like this....

Re: NPD - SansAmp YYZ
So if I understand this correctly, this pedal does parallel processing for bass in one pedal? That's cool! I use Parallaxe as a plugin to do that that as well as finally dialing in a good tone for bass on my Axe FX. With both, the idea is to have a clean, compressed sound in the lower frequencies an...

Re: Bass Guitar Pot Question: 250K vs 500K
BTW, audio-taper pots are the reason why I think the 4-control, Gibson-style layout is useless. I never hear any real difference when trying to "blend" the pickups, because no real change happens until you turn the pot almost all the way down. The blend is a lot more noticeable and varied...

Re: Bass Guitar Pot Question: 250K vs 500K
250k pots and a .047 cap are the appropriate values (and what comes stock from Fender). Is the .047 uF really the standard? That's what I use on guitars and I have a bunch of orange drops lying around. I saw people on another forum mention using .022 on their basses so I ordered some. The higher th...

Re: Bass Guitar Pot Question: 250K vs 500K
I'd recommend looking for some used Gibson 300k pots and fill the split shaft gap on them with tooth picks, to keep them from breaking / bending. They were made by CTS, audio taper, are just a little bit brighter than a 250k and when people started converting back to 05's specs on their humbucker g...

Re: Bass Guitar Pot Question: 250K vs 500K
UPDATE: I was tightening the pots and broke one of the pots, which have obviously been replaced by someone along the way, since it was split shaft instead of solid like the others. Took pickguard off and found that they're 250K pots. Have more ordered and will replace all pots for a fresh start. ima...

Bass Guitar Pot Question: 250K vs 500K
I bought a used Fender Precision Bass Special a couple months ago. I like how it plays and how it sounds. I'm finally figuring out some bass presets on my Axe FX III. However, the pots are a bit noisey (especially the tone knob). I'm thinking of replacing them. Can anyone give me advice on if I shou...

FS: Axe FX II XL+ with MFC 101 Mk III Foot Controller
Hey guys, since I have the Axe FX III and love it, I'm looking to sell my Axe FX II XL+ with the MFC 101 Mk III foot controller. The units still work great, but I have no reason to have another rack rig at this time. I know this isn't quite the usual thing that people on this site buy/sell, but want...
