Re: Whats on your work bench?

Removing the old frets without chipping the rosewood is the problem I had. Maybe heat would have helped.

Re: Whats on your work bench?

Usually don't do this to old radios, but since the speaker cutout was 8" and the power transformer had the right current and voltage, it became a Champ. Ripped out the field coil speaker, all unnecessary parts, reglued all the seams so it wouldn't rattle apart. Last picture is of some transisto...

Re: Whats on your work bench?

On a Strat pickup i think it would overhang but maybe not if slid over the wider part. You could then file or grind away any overhang. Other choice might be to epoxy the stripped hole, then drill and tap. It would hold the 6/32 screw ok as long as the spring pressure wasn't too much. Edit: another i...

Re: Whats on your work bench?

Just had a strat pickup with stripped bobbin's mounting screw thread. Pickup kept slipping down off screw as I tightened. Went to aubuchon and got a 6-32 square nut, and some Loctite brand SuperGlue which is a thicker glue and wont run off a flat or tilted surface. Small tube for less than 3$. Work...

Re: Poll: Whats on your purchase radar?

Been looking at cars, as usual new is probably out of my price range and new is not really needed. Been having luck buying 1 or 2 years old for a discount, still under factory warranty. My daily driver is 12 years old so that one will be sold, looking at some 2021 Escapes now.

$1300 for a Epiphone? I've seen a 59' Epi standard on craiglist for $800 and it will never sell.

Re: Be On the Lookout for RONDO "F Stock" (Flood Stock)

Having had a bass guitar in the basement get water damage (sump pump failure) I have seen the wood soak up water and the poly split. I don't remember if it was up to the lower knobs but i think it was.

Re: Am I an a**hole here - Tirerack take a full day to check payment!

Have you dealt with them before? I think a few places now do double checking when using a credit card, maybe they are held liable if it's a scam or stolen card. I've always ordered from them and 20 years never had problems, tires are shipped fast and i have them installed down the road from here. Sa...

Re: That other Loctite

Yeah, i always get the blue and the red mixed up. I use rubbing alcohol to clean any threads first, once that dries, then the loctite. That being said, i do use clear nail polish probably more than loctite. Some Aliexpress saddles aren't too bad, usually metric though. Being ocd as i am, i also look...

Re: That other Loctite

Do you have them set for any certain radius? I have tapped out saddles before and bought stainless hex screws, though if i remember the metric size is bigger than 4/40 standard size. 5/40 would be your next size up, same size as a gibson humbucker adj screw. Even if you use the permanent color locti...

Re: Stewart Wagner radio?

No selenium rectifiers in that one. I have seen old radios and even some old Fender amps that had asbestos sheet on the back or underneath, to reflect the heat. I've bought a crapload of old wooden radios, what i look out for is missing pieces of wood veneer. You may be able to fill it in but gettin...

Stewart Warner. Watch those 6x5 rectifier tubes, they short out and burn out the power transformer, no factory fuse back then.

Re: Whats on your work bench?

if you are looking to revive this as a 50w, I know a guy who custom winds transformers in Tennessee: Matt@musicalpowersupplies.com . I'd say on par with Mercury Magnetics, at a fraction of the price. Hand made by Matt. He used to live around the corner from me. As far as the ultra-linear output tra...

Re: Whats on your work bench?

Definitely a labor of love... Well, where is the point to stop spending on repairs verses amp value? It should be good for another 20-40 years now. All it takes is 1 great guitar player to say they used this model and all of a sudden it's collectible. Twin reverbs sell for less than smaller deluxe ...

Re: Whats on your work bench?

Fender Bassman 10, about 1979, the 70w version. These don't really have any following and there's a few reasons why. This was used back in the 80's in a local (Scranton) band called Davis Street Exit. I don't know if the bass player used it or the guitar player. It has been sitting for many years. 1...

Re: Whats on your work bench?

Yeah, it's a 5E3 tweed deluxe clone with a few mods. There's a added choke, which is supposed to get rid of some of the tweed flubbiness/farting instead of lowering the 0.1 coupling cap values. There's a added filter cap before the choke so 4 stages of filters all 22uf. The scrounged power transform...

Re: Whats on your work bench?

Mistake turned into relic. Due to the overwhelming LACK of tweed cabinet availability, at a decent affordable price, i am forced to buy stuff from China. This was $260 shipped. Best you can do for a US made cabinet is about $400 or a little less. Chinese shipping was $100 so the cabinet itself is ab...
