Re: Whats on your work bench?

Got a new P/J pickup set from Epic Custom Shop, which get excellent reviews and are a very close visual match for the pickups that originally came with my Fender Jazz Bass Special (which disappeared somewhere along this guitar's 35-year history). I go to put them in last night, and the P pickup is t...

So is this the "default" display scheme, or the only one? I looked around to see if there were other options, but I couldn't find any. I don't mean to seem unappreciative, I just find purple and turquoise on dark gray kind of less readable... REREAD the top post. So is that a "no&quo...

Re: OT: Got a sextortion email

Do not pay it. They do not have anything on you. The way this scam works is that they buy a list of passwords and email addresses that came from some site that got hacked, then send those emails out to every address on the list, with the password as "proof" that they have something on you....

Re: Whats your' latest gear acquisition?

Nice. I'll have you just skip the irritation with ovations and put a permanent strap on it. The rounded part will keep wanting to slide flat on your leg and drive you crazy. That's what everybody says, but I haven't actually had too much trouble with it. It doesn't sit as nicely as a regular flat-s...

And I had somebody flake out for the second time in a week. Person contacts me about a guitar, seems really excited about it, we go back and forth and make arrangements to meet the next day...that morning they email and say, "Sorry, I can't justify spending the money right now." This after...

Re: Do you guys really care about specific patches?

Only tangentially related, but back when I had, very briefly, both my Jet City JCA22H and my Orange CR120H, I spent some time out of curiosity seeing if I could get the Orange to sound just like the Jet City with its Soldano-designed preamp. The CR120 is a pretty flexible amp , but there was alway j...

Re: The Trials and Tribulations of CL/Facebook/etc.

Had a guy contact me about a part. Did not try to haggle. Sounded like a real person. Wanted to meet up real soon. Great! We settled on meeting the next afternoon. 25 minutes before the guy is scheduled to show, he emails and says "sorry can't make it today". Does not suggest another time....

I have an old t-shirt with the logo too! A guy at a store I went into recognized it and commented once, and we laughed about how you have to be of a certain age to even recognize it.

Re: Whats your' latest gear acquisition?

Cleaned up and restrung! I'm not even sure exactly which model this is, although I think it's a 1990s Korean-made instrument. Apparently certain ranges of Ovations had serial numbers that are largely useless for detective work because they followed no pattern and only meant something to the particul...

Gotcha, thanks! Now that I understand it's hard-wired in, it makes a lot more sense.

Can we see a picture of that? I've never seen an amp where the speaker connection wasn't either a 1/4" jack or a speakon jack.

Re: Whats your' latest gear acquisition?

After 30 years of playing guitar, I have finally gotten an acoustic - a used Ovation. I'm not even sure of the exact model, but it's one of the multi-hole models with the curved back, which I think makes it a Celebrity. Pictures will follow when I've gotten it cleaned up a bit, since it clearly hasn...

To me, that's cheating.
I would say it depends. I'll piece together a solo while I'm composing it. But when it comes time to record the final version, I want to be able to play it all the way through.

I have a bit of a soft spot for those, because an Austin Strat copy was basically how I got back into playing guitar seriously - I had just my SG that I'd had for ages, but I was barely playing it anymore, and then one day I saw an Austin in a junk shop, and I thought "That would be fun for mes...

Ah okay, thanks fellas. Looking closer I notice they have multiple ratings. For example it says 120v input, but 10 watt. So is that still too small for 12 watt amp? With the amp straight into the wall, the volume knob has to stay on 0 to not blow my neighbors away. But if I starve the amps power wi...

Re: Anyone Ever strip an Epiphone Neck?

Anything can be done with sandpaper, it just may take more time. The good thing about sandpaper is that you can work slowly and precisely enough to ensure that you're not rounding off edges or removing wood or whatever, if you work by hand and not with an orbital or palm sander or whatever, and that...

Re: Anyone Ever strip an Epiphone Neck?

Yes, I have stripped an Epiphone neck, but it was a bolt-on in my case. It was not easy. The finish they use, at least on their cheaper guitars, is about an eighth of an inch thick and as hard as a rock. I don't know if they're all like that, but I imagine most of them are. I got all the finish off ...
