Re: THE ROMAN SPRING of toomanycats (UPDATE, THE END, APRIL 2024)

Perhaps the most amazing thread in AGF history. What a beautifully painted picture of the experience of life, music, and professionalism or a lack thereof! Reading your experiences makes one feel so alive, Cats. My own were limited, but I did tour with a major theater group before getting into guit...

Re: THE ROMAN SPRING of toomanycats (UPDATE, NOV. 2023)

Okay fellas, I'm willing to “spill a little ink” on this subject now, as I'm no longer playing in this band and they can’t dismiss me from my “job” for speaking the truth. My apologies for leaving you hanging all this time. HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT A JTM or PLEXI IS? My return to the band was weird ...

Re: Disappearing posts

I have submitted two posts this month. Neither made it to the next morning. I'd give 'em a bump, they'd show up for a day only to disappear forever. This has happened three or four times this year. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm beginning to think that someone doesn't like me. A month-old post...

Re: Disappearing posts

I have not noticed, but I have not created a thread lately. Conversely, if you start seeing threads appear that you have not yourself created, the AI has taken control Somebody is posting threads in my name pretending to be a disgruntled guitar hoarder who owns lots of cats, has wild delusions of p...

Re: SNEAKY 2005 AMERICAN STANDARD STRATOCASTER DISGUISES ITSELF AS A $42 POS JAY TURSOR

That is quite the score! A definite upvote for 'caveat emptor.' Are you sure the body isn't ash wood? I have a 2006 alder American Standard from the same factory (bathtub rout) and its grain is much tighter and less figured. I can make no legitimate claim to expertise on identifying the species of ...

Re: Customer Does A John Belushi With An Aria Pro II in Front of Salvation Army

That is a shame. I sure there was a Carlo Robelli sitting around somewhere that would have been a better choice. I have one in the garage. They used to give them away at Sam Ash with a purchase of some threshold amount. I had several back in the day and would give them away. Someone actually brough...

Re: Disappearing posts

Okay, this is kinda freaking me out because I’ve been binge watching old Twilight Zone episodes, half of which involve people and things disappearing, dislocating, and dropping out of space and time. If this thread gets sucked into the Twilight Zone part of me will be going along with it by way of t...

IMG_1779.jpeg These pickups are what came stock in a 2005 American Standard Strat. "56205", 56206" and 56207". Not very glamorous names, to be sure . . . but boy do they sound good. IMG_1780.jpeg IMG_1781.jpeg If I can just circle back to the Jay Tursor neck for just a moment . ...

SNEAKY 2005 AMERICAN STANDARD STRATOCASTER DISGUISES ITSELF AS A $42 POS JAY TURSOR

Yesterday I went into a pawn shop I hadn’t been to for quit a while. The good thing about a long layoff is that new gear has rotated in. While making small talk with a new employee I walked down the line of guitars, taking just a moment to gaze at an Agile 9 sting, a Keith Urban Les Paul copy, a RIF...

Salvation Army Customer "John Belushis" An Aria Pro II Acoustic in Front of The Store

A couple weeks ago a Salvation Army store I frequent had a display window with a rock and roll theme. There were mannequins wearing Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Doors t-shirts, along with various other items that referenced classic rock music culture. The centerpiece of the display was a Aria P...

I just want to make jokes about the name “Bromo.” It sounds like it should be a 2000s Saturday Night Live skit with Chris Katan and maybe Alec Baldwin.

I have a vivid recollection of being at a general admission show at the Utica Memorial Auditorium around 1987 on a stop of Poison’s "Look What the Cat Dragged In Tour." They may have been opening for David Lee Roth on the Eat Em'and Smile Tour. I was right at the very front, pressed agains...

Fender Starcaster Silverburst HSS Strat

I found this Starcaster at one of my usual haunts and gave up $69 for the thing. It’s true that I need another cheap Strat like I need a hole in the head, though I just couldn’t resist the full sized silverburst body; plus the fretboard was a thick slab of authentic, dark rosewood with a beautiful g...

Re: NGD - sort of - my V refin now ready.

Very nice. Is that an RGX neck? If it is, I'm guessing you trimmed off the right side of the headstock to give it that classic Charvel/Jackson pointy look. The offset arrangement of the neck bolts also appear to be from the RGX Super Playability Joint System. Did you cut the body of the V to match t...

This is the pre-lawsuit version; an exact copy of the Gibson model before they were ordered to make changes. I am the original owne...

Re: Robben Ford / Pedal Show w/Dumble

Robben Ford is a very intimidating guitarist. He's certainly amongst the most amazing, recherché players. When I hear him I'm incapable of simple enjoyment. I want to grasp what he's doing, to understand it and incorporate it into my own musical vocabulary. That has proven impossible. It's not just ...

Re: Tech Question for Amp Gurus

This is a topic that hits me close to home because I came of age as a guitarist when rack mounted gear and the famous Bradshaw rigs were becoming prominent. Having one foot back in an era when great guitar tone meant plugging straight into a cranked Plexi, rack mounted units like the ADA MP-1 were s...

Re: Most Unusual Agile LP I've EVER Seen

Not to drift the thread, but on a larger, more all encompassing subject, it has been my understanding that the man, Les Paul, intended the guitar which is his namesake to be constructed entirely out out maple. In the prototype phase this resulted in an instrument that was too heavy. It was because o...

Just don't ever play a reverse Flying V while saying, "Live long and prosper," or, God forbid, "Shazbot, Nanu Nanu."

The kiddies will not get it.

Re: Sam Ash To Shutdown Remaining Stores

Sad news. I'm glad I got to live in a time when music row in NYC was still a thing. As a young man I was a bike messenger for a time, and whenever I had a chance in my daily travels I'd linger on 48th Street and drool over the amazing guitars in the windows of Sam Ash, Manny's, Rudy's, and 48th Stre...

Re: Quick 1 night Stay in Bangkok

Sort of on topic, but yesterday I discovered that "One Night In Bangkok" was written by the guys in ABBA. Did not know that. That's a revelation, though not really surprising either. The chorus has that kind of quirky, 80s Euro pop, elegantly cheesy, super catchy vibe which many ABBA song...

Why would ANYONE buy guitars, amps and pedals from GC? I agree with what you're saying, but to play Devil's advocate, let me justify some recent purchases from Guitar Denter: * Guitar cords . Initially I got some because I needed them right now. But then I realized that by buying Guitar Denter's ho...

Just make sure you experience it before GC's final bankruptcy. I guess I'm confused and pardon me because I haven't been to GC in about 10 years. But didn't th...
