Many banjo players use fishing line for strings!

I just learned that from a new friend, accomplished banjo (and mandolin) bluegrass player. He does it when a string breaks, and so delays having to buy a replacement set.

BTW, amazing how useful fishing line is. In my single days, I had all kinds of artwork hanging off fishing line, making them float off the wall, very cool, dates were impressed (a little, er... let's not get into that!).

OK, everyone knows where this is going, so I might a well get the ball rolling.

What’s the difference between a banjo and a lawnmower?

Your wife gets upset when the neighbours borrow the lawnmower and don’t return it.

Oddly, most bluegrass banjo players I have seen, including the famous, late, Bill Keith (transcriber of E. Scruggs songs, and "Keith Tuners") are so serious while on stage.

I always wanted on of those 6-string banjos that is tuned the same as a guitar. Pretty sure I could learn to play one of those.

What's one thing you'll never hear?

I'd play one of those if it also looked and sounded the same as a guitar.
