I have a Lenovo`laptop and a Canon EOS Rebel T5 I have never had any trouble importing pictures from either the USB out of the camera or inserting the SD card into the computer until now. Either way I try to import my pictures it freezes and wont allow me to import I have rebooted the camera and the laptop but to no avail. Any suggestions?
It sounds like your sd card may have been corrupted. You may have to reformat it if you can stand to lose what's on it. But first I would make sure your usb drivers on your computer are up to date. Maybe trying using a different USB cable as well if you have one.

If you have access to another computer try that to confirm it isn’t the SD Card.
If your camera has wireless or Bluetooth, try that too.
Check drivers are up to date
Try suspending anti virus before importing
Any other changes to the computer recently?
Check for a firmware upgrade for the camera.
Try a different USB socket.
Try different software to import to.
All the above is a quick brain dump. I’d be happy to try to do a remote check on your machine if you like, I’m in the GMT +1 time zone, and you’ll need Teamviewer installed (it’s free)
