Several years back I did a write up and sound demo about the silver stripe version of a Rage 158 I picked up. I could go on about how it sounds, but the sound demo really says everything.





But my ultimate cheap "amp" is the Archer Telephone Listener. I think I paid maybe $1 for it at a thrift store. It produces low-fi tones that Jack White would die for.

I have a little Mooer White Hornet amp hooked up to a Valeton Multi-effects pedal. My absolute favorite setting is where I took the Mooer acoustic channel setting, eliminated the mids, jacked both the treble and bass to max and use a slightly overdriven Fender model on the Valeton. The overall effect is a sort of out of phase sound with accentuated bass and high end that resonates so well with delta blues genre stuff I tend to play. I really need to get a mic to record some stuff as USB interface really cannot truly capture what it sounds like live.

Archer into the PA for a big venue, up on a stool at stage front for all to see. That might be enjoyed by a good audience.

Did you suction the cup right onto your guitar? Please describe. And how about with an acoustic?

No, didn't use the cup.

As comical as it looked, for that recording I utilized the tried and true method for recording guitar amps, which is an SM57 right up on the speaker.

It would be super cool to use the Archer live with a full band.

Sounds great and very tasteful playing!

As far as amp mojo, every amp makes a sound and beauty is in the ears and mind of the guitarist. 1/3'd of Brian May's tone is his Deacy Amp, which was a 2w solid-state Japanese radio kit that his bass player converted to accept a guitar.

I very recently ordered a Positive Grid Spark MINI amp -- the online Black Friday deal proved irresistible -- and I'm sure that little cutie'll be more fun than a barrel of monkeys, but in all candor, my over 20 years old, analogue SS Peavey Transformer 112 combo, what with its 32 fully customizable patches, any of which can be recalled with a tap or two on the included floorboard, does most everything I need (including effects), and quite well, to boot.
