I haven't had a new bike since I was 6. That changed last Friday when I bought myself a cruiser.

I didn't know what to name the matte black ride (lots of ideas, though) but then I found a Smith sunglasses sticker on the counter, slapped it on the bike and - with a nod to The Matrix - named it Mr. Smith.

Done deal.

Beautiful evening + new bike = a pleasant ride into town.

If a kid was on a bike - and I saw about 15 of 'em - it was an e-bike.

Sad.

Great pics. Colorado is a beautiful state (once you get out of Denver lol). One of my favorites.

E-bikes are becoming the dominant strain and it’s quite concerning…

I predict a few houses burned down by those giant lithium batteries will end the trend pretty quick.

Looks like a nice ride and great scenery to boot. Mr. Smith looks like a trusty steed that will serve you well for years.

Yes, we will be much safer keeping our garages filled with gallons of ultra flammable/combustible fossil fuels ;-) I was in Norway for a couple of weeks and hybrid/electric vehicles are the norm vs the exception and I think the US is one of the few countries left that has their head buried in the oil sands. Another thing that was nice there was a break from the conspiracy theory/social media/cancel culture. For the most part people seem to be content with just living and enjoying their lives and surroundings vs worrying about what other people think.

Well here's the thing, liquid fuels really only contain one, maybe two parts of the fire triangle.

Lithium batteries have all three and are perpetually just a few misplaced molecules away from spontaneous combustion.

I'm sure they said the same thing when the horse horseless carriage came around, but hay burns as easy as anything unless it is still wet. Ever seen a hay barn go up, it is very impressive.

The problem with alkali metals like lithium is they way the burn and the average person not understanding how to fight such a fire. Add water and poof you have lithium hydroxide and hydrogen gas...literally adding fuel to the fire.

The wife and I each have an Electra cruiser. We love them. Congrats on the new bike and HBD.

I made this 11-minute vid to watch on a frigid February day next winter. This is from the ball fields back to my house. It's not all trees, river and mountains but it's a fabulous resource. Feel free to bounce around.
