I finally received my new SE Silver Sky today it was supposed to be delivered last Wednesday but wasn't and then every day until today tracking said it was on the truck out for delivery and finally showed up today good old FedEx. So, I do like it so far, it's a bit dusty feeling and needs a good cleaning. The neck feels good but feels a bit too square on the fretboard edges so if I keep it, I'll need to get out the sandpaper and roll the edges. The fit and finish is excellent I bought the Moon White but to my eye it is more yellow than white. The tuner buttons and truss rod cover are plastic and kind of cheap looking though the tuners work really well I just don't like the buttons and they are not replaceable they are molded onto the shaft. The guitar sounds great and the setup out of the box is excellent. So far so good.

Very cool, happy NGD! I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a PRS.
How does it compare to the similarly priced Fender MIM "Player" series?

The American made Silver Sky has the same plastics, so it is a design choice not a cheapening of the model. I don’t get it at SE prices but I REALLY don’t get it at the US pricing.

My buddy I jam with pretty much every week has a Player MIM Strat and all though my SS looks a lot like it to me they are 2 different animals It has a different feel and sound than the Fender. I think the Fender feels not cheap but cheaper than the PRS the sound is deeper and bolder than the Fender and I really think it comes down to an individual's taste. If you are looking for the pure Strat experience, then the only way to go is with the Fender. It's also lighter than the Fender. I really like it but not real sure if I'm going to keep it but if I do those tuners have got to go other than that I will leave it alone. The pups sound great I love the feel of the neck, but I already have a heavily modified SX Strat that plays and sounds great so not sure it's kind of like that old Clash song "Should I Stay or Should I Go".

There are so many different “Strats” even if you just look at what Fender has made over the years. They may look very similar but the differences in how they play and sound are not insignificant once you get to know them. The PRS is yet another flavor, but hard to argue it is any less a “Strat” than any other unless you are super anal about headstocks and brand names.

My feeling after spending time with one (USA) at a local shop was I really liked the pickups, the neck was OK but a bit fatter than I am used to, and the cheap feeling plastics, while nit picky, were a big turnoff to me on a guitar that was $2,400.

Ultimately, I like my ‘88 MIJ and 2016 MIA better for my tastes, but to be fair, both of those guitars have $400 worth of upgrades in parts alone to get there (I did the labor, but the hours are not insignificant if you were to pay market rates for them). The SE might get me to a similar level with less invested if I could get used to the plastics. Just not motivated to try as I am currently GAS free at the moment.
