Remember The Bellamy Brothers? They had hits like:
"If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body
Would You Hold It Against Me?"
This is their latest:
Best New Country Song I've heard in many years!
Flipping stations in the car the other day, I heard a woman singing with a bit of country twang over trap beats (think bad pop music computer generated beats that have been played out for near two decades now) on a what I thought was a country station. If I hadn’t flipped away in disgust, I could have submitted it as a counterpoint and example of the worst new “country” song (if you can really call it that).
I'm not particularly a country fan, but as an older person with a growing appreciation for all musical history I can certainly relate to the sentiment.
I really like their way with words - "they call him nostalgic with a permanent case of the blues"....and the title is a great play on the movie No Country for Old Men. If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body is one of the greatest song titles ever.
The video is pretty nice too.

Oh I could go on and on, but I would really sound the like the angry old man yelling at the kids to get off my grass.
This truly is connected in my mind. Do you know way back in the olden days that professional baseball players had jobs, real jobs like roofing, in the off season. People wrote inspired music celebrating minor victories and lamenting hardship and loss, and people could relate to them, kind of. So if I ever write some lyrics, it will be about my microwave taking too long or my twitter battery only lasting 14 hours.
Yep, sorry about that. Nicotine to caffeine ratio out of balance. Hey that would be a good song.

I don't listen to country music newer than about 2000, but that was pretty good.
Ever hear their "Would you tell your boobs to stop looking at my eyes?"Houblues wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 1:39 pm I'm not particularly a country fan, but as an older person with a growing appreciation for all musical history I can certainly relate to the sentiment.

@mickey, this is the exactly the type of country music that I hated when my dad held me captive in his '73 El Camino when I was a kid riding around with him.
I have actually grown to appreciate this style of country music and everytime I hear it, I think back to those days in the ole' car/truck with dad.
Love this song! Thanks for sharing.

Great song and the Bellamy's are some good folk. Their roots and farm are just down the road from me. That big party I played every year for many years that I posted pics and vids of here on AGF many times is on Bellamy Brothers Blvd a rocks throw from them. They pop up around here all the time.

I agree 80's & 90's began the slide, by 2000 it was in the toilet with no signs of ever coming out.thepezident wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 6:18 am @mickey When would you say country music went downhill?

I would call the 60's & 70's a "golden age" of country music.

I'm not a fan of much "New Country" but that I like thanks @mickey
Being not only an old Southern Boy but an Appalachian Mountain boy as well I have southern rock in my veins. The best newer (I say newer because it's been out 6 or 7 years) "southern rock" song I've heard spit out since the 70's was this ditty Blackberry Smoke did.
