Clip-on tuners?

I just realized those headstock clip-on tuners cost like 10 bux so I'm def getting one.

Any recommendations? Looking at Korg PC2 and it looks good to me.

Any other suggestions for @on-guitar tuner?

I've had a couple of Snarks for years. Use them more than my pedal tuner.

Thanks. Sadly, that seems to be order from Germany stuff here. They have...planet waves, boss, Korg, fender bullet. I'd prefer to buy local for such a small purchase especially.

I have like 10 reverb branded ones from when they were giving em away for like 3 bucks a pop.

I don't know if the brand matters so much, but highly recommend the clip on tuners! Handy!

Opinion is Snarks are junk. Threw them away once cracked. Buy the Polytune.

I agree that they're super handy, though I hate the way they look. Can't stand it when somebody is playing onstage and one of those things is hanging on the headstock like a fat bloated tick.

Yeah! That's what I dislike as well. The Korg PC2 can at least be clipped on the back of the guitar.

I don't really need a tuner that often, usually I just check if it's still in tune once in a couple of hours of playing...but onstage temps change a lot.

My oldest snark is great and the one I use the most. It tracks quickly. The screen is slightly different from my newer one although they are the same model. It's more a convenience thing. I don't play out so it works well enough.

I have several of these too, reverb had a sale on them for $1.99 or something like that several years back, I think I bought 10. They are cheap but work just fine and to date the only problem I’ve had is dead batteries.

Polytune here is $50. These are nice metal spring loaded clip, battery last a long time. I just looked and sweetwater has them a lot cheaper $28 but showing out of stock? You could probably drive over these with a car and they will still work. I would also buy the pedal sight unseen after owning the clip version. The 2 snarks i owned fell off the table and cracked, crazy glue only worked so long then broke again.

I don't think I would have considered them for stage use. But for home, they're great. Keep a tuner on every guitar, a pick in every set of strings, and you're always good to go.

I'm considering one for stage use because they're so cheap and don't take any space. I have two pedal boards I use and neither had room for a tuner. Now I have just the Mooer Red Truck and while I have a big floor tuner for stage use, I hate the clutter of several pedals on my feet. The Mooer has a tuner but it's pretty useless.

I got a Dunlop one for $10 I think. Works fine, although it occasionally annoys me - it only has one tiny button so if you accidentally press it, it changes tunings, and then you have to press it like 50 more times before it comes all the way back around to the tuning you want. Not the worst thing in the world, I know...

Also, I don't know if it's feasible for you to have your phone with you, but I have the (free) Fender Tune app for my Android and it works like a charm. There are many other free tuners out there for mobile devices. I tend to use my phone more than the Dunlop, but mostly because the phone is in my pocket anyway...

Use it on stage and feel free to leave it on the guitar. I'd much rather you were in tune while I watch you than worry about your imperfect functional looking headstock. And I hate waste and it seems eveytime someone takes one off because they think it looks ugly they lose it. Then they need to "borrow" mine . Then I lose mine too. So buy a snark (or whatever) and superglue it to the head.

Seriously this 2 pack for $20 was pretty good and very hard to see clipped to the back of the headstock.

Still I think not quite as good as the snark though. The snark does stick out and can get banged around more.

Or buy a whole new guitar. I've been using this recently and its been working well and its great for alt tunings. (so far)

I had a Gibson LP with the G force tuning system. It does work fine, but the thing is, it requires constant tuning. I had to press tune at least five times during a 2-hour practice session. I've owned three Gibsons over the past 20 years and they all needed tuning far more often than cheap copies of the same and also far more frequent truss rod adjustment.

Great guitars, but in practice and especially live, I rather play a cheaper copy, just slam Gibson pickups in them and I'm happy.

Epiphones and cheap copies usually reduce the headstock angle, to reduce the tuning issues inherent to the design.
