So right when the pandemic started the wife finally agreed to get a pistol for protection. Specially now that my boys are older we agreed it was time.

Things have progressively getting as bad as the guitar situation lol.

So far I have a Glock 21, Glock 26, Springfield XDM and a Ruger SR22 which is on the way back from service. :)

Very nice. I kind of took a similar path and have amassed a Glock 19, a Sig P365 and a S&W M&P 22 compact along with a M&P 15 in 556. Next on the list Is a Ruger LCR in .357.

I keep a loaded 12 gauge short barrel pump shotgun on a wall rack on my side of the bed so I can grab it and go out the door with an extra 6 shells on the stock. I have a assault rifle, 7.62x39mm on the same rack in case I need to reach out through the windows. Semi Auto and 10 in the mag with a 100 rounds in stripper clips. .38 S&W Inspector Special in my night stand that I can reach while in bed. and a .40 cal pistol loaded with 14 rounds in my desk drawer. I've had them all for 25 plus years one of them for 40. It's not a hobby.

Nice!

I keep a Glock 23 & Glock 42 (my concealed-carry). My wife urged me to my tons of .40 S&W ammo at the onset of the shelter in place orders.

With the civil unrest across the country and the illogical / hyper-emotional behaviors going on, I am glad I did.

I am behind, Never wanted a gun in the house because of the kids. Now is the time but you cant get a shotgun right now here in NY, much less a permit for a handgun. I am for it being tough to get a permit, but man I need something

Is this just a stock issue with shotguns right now? Are they sold out?

I also noticed in your sig you were from Hudson Valley. Our oldest kid is in the Hudson area.

Yes there is no supply and the gun and ammo store has a huge line to get in starting at 8am (they open at 10) that lasts throughout the day.

I am one Hour south of Hudson. Hudson is a nice little town

That reminds me that one of my goals this year is to learn how to shoot. I want to start with something that takes .22LR. I'm hoping people aren't still hoarding that ammo as I was under the impression is that's supposed to be the most common in America. If prices are crazy do to COVID (on ammo or guns), I may just hold off.

So yes this is worse than golf or guitars, you start with one, then you have a bunch lol.

Next for me is an AR15 - something like a Springfield Saint or the like - don't want to break the bank. Sadly I haven't been able to get my ccw (already took the class) because all the FL offices are closed. All aside from Tallahassee which is a bit a ways from me.

I ended up purchasing a S&W M&P 15 in 556/223 - which is their entry level AR-platform. I kind of got caught up in the early Covid/early election year frenzy and decided to buy one as I wasn't sure if I'd ever have the chance again. I found a package for the firearm with a entry-level red dot sight for about $500. It was between that and the Ruger AR 556 as they were about the same price, but the S&W is a very serviceable and accurate firearm, glad I picked it up. I've only shot about 250-300 rounds through it so far as our one indoor range was shut down for a bit during the peak of quarantine time, but our outdoor range has opened back up . I grabbed a bunch of magpull 30 round mags for like $9 each from grabagun.com - thats' where I got the AR and 2 of the 3 handguns, they do a nice job if yoiu have a friendly FFL dealer locally.

I took the CCW course here right before the major panic hit and applied right away - it took about 3 weeks but I finally got my permit back in April. Here in WI it's good for 5 years.

Around here Ammo is somewhat scarce in common calibers, but most shops are rationing it out at 1-2 boxes a day and there aren't really too many lines. Our local Gander Outdoors has had Aguila 115gr 9mm in 300-round boxes for about $60 bucks which isn't too bad.

My next purchase is going to be a Ruger LCR - I think I want the .357 model for a little extra weight, but will likely just use .38 most of the time. The .327 mag version is kind of cool too withi 6 rounds and a super wide range of available ammo choices( 32 short, 32 long, 32 mag, 327 mag ) but it's a difficult model to find and the ammo is hard to find too. I might just go with teh .38+P because they have those in stock here locally still.

But yeah..they are like Lay's chips, aren't they?

Wondering if you were ever able to get into a CCP class? Things in the firearms market have gone from kind of crazy to flat out ridiculous as of late it seems since this thread was last visited.

Yeah I did. Took the class and they just opened up the ccw license place just have to schedule the appt.

We went to an outdoor range this weekend as well. Felt good to squeeze off a few hundred rounds. Even though we are in a bit of a shortage, I managed to fire 200 of 45 acp and made sure the glock 21 is good, which she finally is!
My good buddy chris took his .65 credmore & Benelli shotgun which were fun too.

I have around 1000 rounds of 9mm so I’m going back Sunday to try the glock26 and ruger 22 pistol with my 16year old.
But I’m definitely keeping an eye out for more ammo that is for sure.

Firearm practice is difficult here in NYC, but we did get into archery recently, discovering in the process that there's a range about a mile and a half from our house. My wife got a recurve bow, and I got to try out a compound bow for the first time in my life, which was fun. The interesting thing is discovering parallels between target shooting and playing music. In both cases, you need to have equipment that fits you comfortably, but more important is staying relaxed and fluid, and only having as much tension in your body as you absolutely need to.

Are any of you new pandemic gun owners? Do you know anybody thats a newbie? I hear that between the pandemic and the riots there are not just millions of new guns sold but millions of brand new, never interested before, gun owners in the last 8 months. My brother is interested but with the waiting list just to get into the local store and no info on even what's in stock before you go its been quite the hassle.

Never owned one but I’m interested in getting one. Maybe handgun and AR at some point. Not really because of COVID or election , just because I Think it will be fun and a bit of an insurance policy.

But first I need to stop buying guitars and woodworking equipment so I can buy a motorcycle. Then a gun

It's really the perfect storm right now - election + pandemic + social unrest. Around here you can still find firearms, but ammo is like toilet paper.

It's a good stress reliever. Also a practical tool for many thigns - hunting, self defence, sport.

A 12 gauge or 20 gauge shotgun is an extremely versatile option. With maybe one extra barrel, you can hunt waterfowl, small game, medium size stuff like Deer. You can also shoot trap, skeet and even use it for personal defense quite handily. There is an incredible array of ammunition available for shoguns too - from very small birdshot all the way up to slugs that will blow a hole the size of a softball in whatever you might choose to hit. Right now it's about the only ammunition you can find on the shelves too.
