I'm super happy to be back but struggle with new formats (see six year battle with Word on Windows 10). I'll learn as time allows but it's very foreign to me. Suggestion: a simple "like" button at the bottom of the post would save me some time.

I look forward to regaining our stride sometime soon. I'm confident that site stewards are as well and making tweaks as time allows.

A BlackStar Fly 3!

Hey y'all, I'm pretty much new to this forum in general! I created my account on the old agf site around a month before its demise but from the short time I spent there, I found it very awesome how everyone was friendly with each other.

From the short time I've been on this board, I really found the sense of community here warming and friendly. I agree with others here about the lack of diversity here. Sometimes I even wonder if I'm the only female here that has posted at least more than once.
As a newbie, I'm just gonna throw this idea out there! What I've seen on other forums is that they usually have a third party communication app, such as discord, in order to make it easier for members to interact with each other, either it be through text channels or voice chat. It makes it easier for forums to like organize events with the community and it brings in new people who are interested in knowing more about the forum.

Aside from that, I'm pretty glad to have found this site! :)

I,m getting more used to it. But ya, the theme I think is what feels not as homey. Seems more like a newspaper than a comfy place we had. But i,m getting more comfy all the time.

It's the same after driving the same car for years. You buy a new ride and for the first few weeks everything feels weird, even though it has features and abilities far beyond your old clunker. After some time.. Fits you like a glove.. But I'll never forgive manufacturers from getting rid of the little wind screen windows old cars used to have.

I saw an article that musical instrument sales are booming during the epidemic. That made me glad. It shows that people want to make music, even in these troubled times.

And I know there are a lot of young musicians out there buying and playing guitars.

So why are we not seeing these young people on AGF? I guess the original AGF was a niche forum, whose members were led to it by Rondo and the Agile guitars.

But with Rondo changing (and Kurt wanting to get out), our "customer base" is shrinking. Kurt decided to go after the 7,8 and 9 string crowd...and they have their own forum for that stuff, so they won't bother coming here. They have as little interest in 6-string guitars as I do in 9-string guitars.

I haven't been going to the other guitar forums I used to go to, like the Gear Page, so I don't know if they are as active as they used to be, or more active, or the same. But in terms of demographics, if AGF.net can't attract new members, it will slowly but surely fade. It might not disappear, but we might just have to accept that it's never going to have the kind of traffic it did 10-12 years ago.

Yes. As nice as it is to have the options, for speed a simple "like" button is probably preferable.

Actually I’ve mused to myself over the past few weeks that it seems there is more activity on the new site, like it re-energized people.

We should all posts “X years later” reviews of our Rondo guitars . I think I bought my 3100 in 2008 and I still play it regularly.

Lol.

First there was a Tele.
Then there was a Les Paul and Strat.
Then there were 70 guitars.
Then there was nothing but Kramer's
And now there's mainly home-made Kramer's
Plus a Destroyer, LP, Wolfgang and Tele

I just got really intimate with my #1 for the first time in a good two years last night. Damn does it sound good, and play fast.

Yeah baby. A single like button, and at the bottom of the posts. It's so weird having to scroll down to read your post, scroll up to like it, then scroll back down to read the next post.

Also if we could just get a New Posts or Unread Posts button to stay put in the header, I wouldn't have to go through that painful hamburger menu each time. :)

I’ll just weigh in here to say I like things just fine. I find things a little different - not better or worse - just different.

I nearly started this exact thread a few weeks ago, wrote it all out, then deleted it because I didn't think anyone else felt this way, and I didn't want to offend anyone.

Right now, a few minutes after you, my New Posts result is 26 threads.

Edit - And this morning it is around 7. Must be based on time since last page refresh, or similar.
And right now at 31. Just into the 2nd page. I was beginning to think this feature was limited to 1 page.

It does appear to reset itself every few hours based on my experience, I'm guessing about every 6 hours.
I've been retired for a long time thus don't keep any sort of regular schedule, so I'm apt to be on at any hour of the day.
So I have noticed you can go from a couple of pages to three posts for no obvious reason.

Yeah...It's such a PITA to click on the "Quick Links" menu option on the upper left of the board and select from "Your Posts, New Posts, Unread Posts, Unanswered Topics, Active Topics". Get a mouse with a Scroll Wheel and you'll FLY!

Traffic on the old AGF spiked when Rondo ruled the "Cheap Killer Guitar Market" which they don't anymore nor have they for at least 5-7 years.

My brother, we aren't criticizing you in the slightest. We love that you set up a net. We love it so much, we think about how it can be even better.

On phone, which is almost the only way I've used AGF since 2010, it is difficult to click on those buttons. Often I have to scroll in, or mis-click. I'm also what you'd call a fast phone user, the clicks bother me a lot less than most. An extra 5 motions and 2 seconds is easy for me, for most everyone I work with that's an extra minute.

Take nothing away from that we love what you've done. :)

Thanks and I know it's appreciated. We have what we have. It's not optimized for mobile for sure but maybe a future iteration will be.

The only thing I think that's missing (other than avatars on the left-hand side, and I know that's too much work) is the sentimentality that I think all, or at least most of us, felt for the old site. I had been pretty much a ghost over there for the last few years and contributed almost nothing at all, but I still came in to check and it always felt like home - even if I was just sort of looking in the window instead of walking through the door.

Other than that, I'm more than happy with the new site. Still the same friendly bunch of people who are loaded with decades of knowledge and experience and more than happy to pass it on to anyone that asks for it. And it goes beyond just guitar/gear talk. We still celebrate births, new jobs, retirements, or even just a nice picture of a bird that someone snapped in their back yard. It's still that kind of place - and that's what will keep me coming back.

I only really hit a few sites with any sort of regularity and this is one of them.

It is different.
It does feel a bit sterile, while my resistance to change and kids on my lawn may lend bias.
Still some missing members; I guess we are not the same AGF brothers we were.
Traumatized by the brutal ass-raped betrayal by the blomo.
The same; yet different.

Why? The interface is certainly functional; not like that Blomo farce.
What is the meaning of internet life, sensei?

Bewb pics? Hmm, a flavorful side dish but not the main course.
I agree the general volume of trades and good deals, etc. is down so there is less "stuff" to post about.
Has the "golden era" of cheap but good guitar passed us by, or is another yet unseen chapter just over the horizon; the next Harry Potter movie?
We still have some good build and new gear threads, some performance clips, and a cool meme thread.

Good to have landed in the life boat and then here with you folks.
I'm not a long timer, but at 5 plus years I recognize most of the group.

Gets me thinking about things like:
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

"I been sayin' that sh** for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never gave much thought what it meant. I just thought it was some cold-blooded sh** to say to a motherfracker before I popped a cap in his ass. I saw some sh** this mornin' made me think twice. See now I'm thinkin', maybe it means you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9 Milimeter here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. "

"Or it could mean you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. Now I'd like that. But that sh** ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd."

I think it means if I get hung up about it I should go play some guitars and play in the yard with my dogs.

Seriously, though, I'm just glad that we're all here, at least most of us—as regards changes, I'm a life-long Mac user, so I'm used to arbitrary changes in appearance and function, so just roll with the punches.
If there's one thing that really pisses me off, it has to be when Fender abandoned the Mustang Fuse software and all those cool patches disappeared, and they didn't even say "So long, and thanks for all the fish …" 😡👺🤓

A bit Orwellian of a post maybe but I trust that'll smooth out.
