Ok this 60 watt (with 1 watt attenuator) , reverb, tremolo, and chorus, analog vs DSP has piqued my interest. I absolutely LOVE my little Yamaha THR10C, but it has 1 fault, which I found is well known and even documented by Lee Anderton when he reviewed the original way back when. When you use a looper and then play over the loop, the sound gets muffled almost as if it's out of phase. Something to do with both the size and the stereo amp speaker configuration. There seems to be a slight time difference in processing the looped signal vs the guitar input, like a queuing that gets overrun.

So in my endless search for justification for another amp, this 12 inch Laney analog model caught my eye. Using an A/B switch one could lay down a loop on the THR10C and then switch to the bigger amp Amp #2 to solo over the loop which keeps on playing on Amp #1.

First some bills (annual house maintenance fee) due next month and then..I think I might just do it.

Love it. Reverb and tremelo built in, too.

I had e a MIC Laney amp back in the day and honestly it was one of the best sounding amps I have ever owned. It was very Vox-like but better. Just like the Vox that I had, it was sold when decided to get rid of all MIC amps back then. Now they are offering a Lionheart line that is Made in the UK. I was googling 5W amps with a 12" speaker and they came up. It has been hard not pulling the trigger. They make a 5W and a 20W version. I am so happy with my current amps that it just makes no sense, yet I still want one. Currently the only MIC amp I have is a little Super Champ XD. I have an Ampeg J20 that was made in Vietnam but that thing is handwired and made like they did in the way back years.

Here's what I'm confused about: the Laney Loudbox pedal format amp, identical to the super combo power amp is about $50 less than the 1×12 Super combo. So for $50 you get a cabinet, 12 inch speaker and chorus and trem on top. On top of that the pedal format is made in the UK too. Weird.

The only thing stopping me from getting the Laney 5W is the Devilcat Gussie head which will do both 3W and 17W. I promised myself that if I were to buy another amp it would be the Devilcat Gussie head. Now they are making the combo version too. It is awfully heavy though at 46 lbs.

The only thing I'd change is that font on the front panel, hard to read...too bad I can't take one back on the plane with me my next trip.

Which Laney 5W were you looking at ?

I'm getting a price quote on the Laney L5T-112 (which I assume is the UK made amp you refer to)...looks interesting...if anyone actually has it in stock. Sometimes here in Bangkok, some of these sleeper 'inventory' gear stock can be had at a good price is they are trying to move it. $1299 on Sweetwater so that is my reference...we'll see where it comes in higher or lower.

Update: Vendor no longer carries the UK made line. :(

I thought there was hope because they did leave it up on the website with a special teaser price:

So here is an interesting tidbit:

Contacted Laney UK to inquire where their local service is in Bangkok should one need help. I was given the link to what he said was their sole distributor (although many independent shops are selling Laney stuff)...and that distributor/service org is none other than Siam Music which is the music equioment company wholly owned by Yamaha. One the site when asked to select an amp for a service request (I was testing the system) the only options are the Yamaha THRII series amps...perhaps someone should inform Yamaha that they are Laney's service and support arm here in Thailand.

I was eyeing the 5W Lionheart combo with the 12" speaker.

Yes that's the same one...there is one other shop I'm gonna check tomorrow...I have been reading 10 years of reviews and opinions on this one and I haven't found a bad one yet. It might seem like a life-time keeper if I can find one. About the only negative I saw was the kickstand was easily knocked out by a frisky kitten....ha ha ha

That must have been a sizeable kitty. That amp weighs a ton.
