I was having lunch and this came into my YouTube feed, I believe from my son's account. A cover band I was in, on a two-camera shoot of a band practice to use as a calling card for gigs. My son Pierce is manning the chaos camera.

Enjoy!

That guy is getting some sick lead sounds out of that SX Liquid. Stock pickups, or is there some of Rob's "secret sauce" in there?

What's even more amazing is that he's producing that sound without a tone-beard.

Did anybody back then ever tell you that you looked like Tom Cruise? I'm serious, it looks like Maverick is playing guitar in that band.

I loved everything about this clip: the song, tones, practice room, the fun vibe, etc. Please tell us more about the group.

That was just awesome as hell. Rocking in the basement! I miss basements, we do not have them here.

@doc-knapp : Thank you - you are too kind!

@toomanycats : That video is from 2009 or 2010. The Liquid (actually a SJM-62) I believe had my P-90's which were A2 vintage wind, perhaps a 2% ish overwind on the bridge. I swapped those out in 2015 for the same Firebird pickup recipe I made for you (pictured below). It rocks even better, IMHO. And yes, a friend of mine's 2nd wife used to tell me all the time that I resembled Tom Cruise (I never saw it). 14 years later, I now look like Tom Cruse's character, Les Grossman, from the movie 'Tropic Thunder.' Had a tone beard in 1983.

@tlarson58 thank you! The lead guitar player in Beer Truck happened to be my Philadelphia suburb childhood friend and a guy I was in many cool bands with. I sat in unexpectedly one night when I want to see them play and their other guitarist got hammered before the gig (he would get bad stage anxiety), we gelled, I handled an equipment emergency (someone spilled a beer inside the amp I was using), the guitarist quit a month later and I was asked to replace him. That was around 2007. We played local pubs and parties until our last gig in December of 2014. I'd say we played 50% classic rock and 50% 1990's to 2010's rock. Everyone sang and the drummer and I were adept at arranging the harmonies, which was very fun. Everyone was talented and I really liked Jon's lead vocals. Roles within the band occurred naturally, which made it very fun for me. I was in charge only of the equipment, any recording and co-lead the arrangements with the drummer. The bookings, money, song selection, promotion, etc. was divided among the rest. The bass player in the video was with us for a year, but struggled with addiction. Within a week of this video, he went into rehab for fentanyl and never resumed his ability to hang with a band. My best friend Tom jumped right in and was with us to the end. I occasionally pull some of them into virtual recording projects. It was a 98% of the time, low stress - big fun band.
