Today is my last day as full time employee. Early into my 36 year long career I decided to make it a goal to retire at 62. Ms Tonebender and I worked the plan diligently. This was the target year. I plan to take some time off and then do something part time, no more than 2-3 days a week. That should be enough to keep it interesting. Ms Tonebender is three years behind me so I will need to keep busy until she can join me in full retirement.

Mine was the happiest day of my life as I have repeated many times.

Enjoy it. I retired 13 years ago at 59. Time to do so many things that I had always wanted to do. Busy with hobbies, projects and a lot of golf and playing guitars of course. Never bored.
I always say it is the best 'job' I have ever had, just took a long time to get it. Freedom of time is one of the best benefits. Much like being a school kid off for the summer (but with no going back to school in the fall).
My wife still works as she is quite a bit younger than me (just turned 60 last month). Since this COVID thing started she has worked on the COVID unit at the hospital that she has worked at for the past 40+ years.

Well, that's that …
I started my usual seasonal layoff just before last Xmas, with the anticipation of going back beginning of February (6 hrs a day 3 days a week plant sales). Then Covid -19 struck—I turn 78 at the end of this month ( &*^%!!?), and my wife said "Do you really want to go back?"
The pittance I received was nonetheless a help, but since I've been getting UK Pension alongside SS (and she also gets 60% of my UK$$), we've been keeping our heads above water, especially as not getting out as much has really cut down on impulse buying (wine doesn't count!!)
So yesterday I went into work and pulled the plug—my boss was fine with it as she was concerned for me as a high-risk case, my having had a triple bypass some years ago. In some ways I'll miss it, made some some good friends among the customers and so on, but honestly …?
As my father said when he retired "I don't know how I ever had the time to work!"
Been doing lots of work around garden and house, working on my second jazz guitar mystery novel (note to self—get off butt and publish first one …),practicing guitar, spending many happy hours on this forum, and assembling a partscaster fretted bass to go with my fretless. Yesterday I got a set of nutslot saw rods from GeetarGizmos (only $10 or$12) as the E string is way high, and a 4-inch real leather strap should be here today.
Sat up late and watched a really interesting bass clinic on YouTube, which would be good for all musicians to watch < some thought-provoking ideas, check it out …

As I've written here before, I'm currently retired at 54.
Last fulltime job I had ended in December 2017 when I was laid off. I freelanced for a while but only a couple of months in the past year and a half. I love it! Love the freedom.
I may go back to school. May try a second career. May try a part-time job. Who knows? A lot will depend on finances.
I am a big fan of retirement and early retirement and have been proselytizing for years....
