5 years in this house and I've seen bird invasions, squirrel damage, snails eating every living plant in their path, geckos (always 2 or 3 in the house), Tokays (bigger lizards), water monitors, skink lizards, stray cats, but we finally have our first real live snake.

No worries, it can't get into the house unless someone leaves the door open. I think it's a rat snake, not venomous but they can be quite aggressive which is why I stayed and filmed it thru the kitchen window. I will take extra care before sticking my hands under things in the garden

That's better than my snake. When I was packing up to move from a rental house in Colorado, I had some boxes stored in the unfinished basement. When I went down to start bringing them up, I apparently disturbed a rattlesnake that was living down there (heard him rattle, but didn't see him). I ran up the stairs with that box, then my best friend and I formed a plan. He would crouch on the stairs with my .22, and I would go and kick the next logical box. If it rattled, I'd run and he'd be ready to shoot. If it didn't, I'd carry the box upstairs and to the truck. That was really the only thing we could think to do because I had to be out that day. It worked out. I think the rattlesnake got the idea after a few seemingly close calls. I never figured out where he was hiding, but we got it done with no bites or shots fired.

Love snakes...they are great to have around. Just don't step on them!

I would love to keep him around...perhaps as a snakeskin guitar strap
