A thought experiment: Hostile aliens arrive on Earth and challenge us to a riff contest. It's their single best riff against our single best riff, winner take all, the loser goes extinct. This is the riff I'd bet the existence of humankind upon:

While that song and riff are legendary, I always thought this riff off that album was underrated AF and equally epic:

Yup, that's one of those albums where there's not a bum song, like VH 1, GnR's Appetite, AC/DC's Back in Black.

OK @toomanycats, I am that alien. I come back with...
So it's Iommi vs Iommi. This poses another question in the form of a thought experiment: What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?

Another excellent song by the premier Riff Lord himself, and indeed, any woman knows as “Lady Evil” must be an irresistible force, especially if she’s “dirty”...
I can riff on this all night, Sabbath deep cuts are where I really get happy...”Junior’s Eyes”? Anyone?
toomanycats , here’s a late 80’s band with good riffage that straddled the line between heavy blues/hard rock and the melodic-doomier side of Sabbath...
this will make a good soundtrack to my deck demolition project tomorrow

i may be testing some members' patience with some of my choices
the nice thing about collaborative playlists is anyone can delete any track (watch out Air Supply )
i won't be offended

I know which are yours . I think it’s poetry going from Sleep to Air Supply.
