I've read a bunch of stuff and watched a few videos, and I am yet to have a full understanding of what a Scene is (in a high end modeler for example) vs a preset or a created patch. Why would I create a patch and then create a scene off of that patch that say for example, turns off delay...VS.. just creating patch #2 that does not have delay. I guess a real world implementation would bring it home to me but seems quite hazy and maybe just a benefit only iof playing live and the switching is more transparent in switching scenes within a patch vs switching patches (or even turning off an effect within a patch via footswitch) that even cheap modelers can do.
Why am I asking ? Of course my cheapness would prevent me from ever buying a high end modeler such as Fractal, Helix etc but NUX has issued an update to their little 20 Watt/8 inch speaker amp and it now includes scenes in addition to presets.
Just trying to keep my head scratching to mosquitos here in Thailand vs new fangled amp/modeler tech.
Any help in understanding appreciated.

I have a Line6 PodGo, which I love, and it has a screenshot feature. I think this may be similar to what you're asking. If I create a patch, with numerous "pedals", I can use the footswitches to turn on or off each "pedal" independently. If I create a screenshot of that patch, in each screenshot I can have one or more "pedals" turn on or off with on press of each footswitch. For example, if I have a modeling patch where I have an overdrive for a rhythm tone, a boost and delay for lead tones, but also have a harmonizer for a certain part, I can create a screenshot of a clean amp with only reverb from that patch, then one footswitch can be my rhythm screenshot, another can add both the boost and delay, and the last footswitch can add the harmonizer and lose the delay.
I hope you're understanding. I'm not the best at explaining things.

Thanks that was quite understandable...it seems like just another way to add flexibility to an existing patch setup. Just seems like a buzzzword that all modelers now must have to be competitive in the market.BrianSkeezer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 7:07 am I have a Line6 PodGo, which I love, and it has a screenshot feature. I thought the terms scene, patch, bank, preset. etc., were just nomenclatures for a customized setting that one wishes to store and use again. Different manufacturers use different terms. I could be wrong though. I used to have Boss multi-effect pedal and IIRC the term was "bank". The only other gear I have ever owned that does something like that is my Bose ToneMatch Mixer and I do believe they call it a scene. My Boss ME was short=lived in my stable. I did not think the effects were that good. I am real close to using not effects at all. I have been learning to crank the low wattage tube amp and use my volume knop for cleaning it up or adding some hair.

I'm sure there's no real standard to the naming. On my PodGo, I got it wrong. They're called presets. My old Zoom multi-effects units had patches.tonebender wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 6:20 pm I thought the terms scene, patch, bank, preset. etc., were just nomenclatures for a customized setting that one wishes to store and use again. I think a bank is a group of presets or patches. Like Bank 1, presets A, B, C, and D. They're listed as 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D. In each preset, I can have 4 screenshots.
I really like my multi-effects units. I understand the option paralysis that comes along with them, though. That hasn't really gotten me. I like that for the price of a group of pedals, I can get a unit that has a bunch more pedals for me to try, and I can find my sound somewhere in there without buying and selling. Then, if I get adventurous, I can find another sound that I like and make a new preset. If I want to record, I use 2 different presets to set the guitar parts apart.

Ok...finally I found a video that explains the real world use of scenes within a patch: still a bit hazy as to why you couldn't accomplish the same with multiple patches but perhaps this is more seamless in a live environment

The way I take it is a scene is like setting up everything that you would need for a particular song and have the capacity to control it via the footswitches.
That said, I have had an HX Stomp XL for quite a while and it's still mostly beyond me.
