I wonder what they used for that finish since the red didn't fade like on the bursts, and it doesn't look like aged nitro either. Unless the thing was kept in storage out of sunlight for all these years, perhaps it wasn't nitro.

Yeah...I wondered about that because there wasn't a hint of 'checking' or cracking...it would have had to be in a light AND humidity controlled ennvironment for Nitro not to age a little and even then almost 70 years still would show.

Whatever it was, they should have used that finish instead of the burst! Could you imagine all the tone snobs arguing about how nitro kills your tone and that the only good finish is whatever poly stuff Gibson used!
