A few days ago I was using my Music Nomad Spanner guitar wrench thingie, and noticed the suede backing was peeling off. Looking at it more critically than I ever had before, I noticed what I previously thought was bluing was actually a blue plastic coating between the steel and the suede. Apparently they got the wrenches with a plastic coating they should have removed before applying the suede, but on mine they left the coating on, and this is why it was peeling.

Well crud, I thought. If it peels too much, I can't trust it that close to my guitar finishes. So I sent a picture asking Music Nomad if maybe they missed a step making mine. Indeed they said they've never seen that before, but yes, obviously managed to forget peeling the plastic before applying the suede. They checked with their R&D folks, who said it would be fine to just peel the old suede and plastic off, and they offered to send a new 3M sticky suede patch out to me. Of course, I told them that would be great, and it arrived today. The old one peeled off very easily, so I guess I was right to worry it would naturally peel off in time. The new one is on, and probably won't budge.

So really I just want to say this. Dumb things happen, both in R&D and in manufacturing because we're all human. It's how well we respond to news that maybe we screwed something up that shows our character. Music Nomad responded perfectly to this situation, I give them big kudos. A lot of companies would have told me it's not a problem, or that I was outside my return window, or anything else to just wash their hands of it. But these folks did right without any pressure at all. I wish more companies acted like them. It even makes me want to ignore them calling it a spanner instead of a wrench.

All these years and I had never even heard of a guitar spanner wrench. Now I am convinced I must have one.
