Years ago, Gina and I went to check out a Fender Strat listed on Craigslist. It played very well and sounded nice, but I already had a Strat and I was going to pass on this one, even though it was a steal.

But Gina loved the color (we called it Blurple), and she prompted me to reconsider until I ended up buying it. She liked it every time I chose to play Blurple.

Now when I play Blurple, it makes me want to talk to Gina. So today (on Gina's birthday) I am hand-making a new pick guard out of walnut for Blurple. I will screen print a OUIJA board pattern onto it, as a reminder that this guitar is for communicating and remembering.

With this fit test, I like how this is going to finish out. Now I think I'm going to have to make some planchette shaped knobs, maybe in maple.

God bless your guitar, both of your's.

That is pretty cool. Time to summon those guitar demons!

Thanks. I was already compelled to play Superstition on it.

Thanks to planned obsolescence, it literally took me days to machine these 3 planchette shaped knobs, but they're definitely going to work.

They're shown upside-down here because the hairy details are on the bottom side of these knobs, this is how they were machined. But they'll fit the job well and cover the pot nuts, looking like they're just hovering freely over the OUIJA board because OCD.

I thought I was going to use maple, but this other blonde hardwood with mahogany-like grain was available in my shop in closer dimensions to the knobs, so I went with it, not even remembering what kind of wood that is.

Sorry, didn't see your PS before...

Stevie Wonder's Superstition, also covered by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

No worries!

I remember to have listened to that SW song; I mean, I recognized it when I listened to it. SRV´s version is cool.

And now I´m realizing that Europe´s song is not "Superstition" but "Supertitious" ;)

In my opinion, SRV adds a level of cool to everything he ever did. If you listen to the original Stevie Wonder version, he based it all on a clav rhythm part, and that phrase is a blast to play on guitar instead. Perfect looper fuel.
