Took my 16year old out driving last weekend.
Passed a pawn shop and said.....go around the block and lets go in.
I had decided that instead of trying to get that Monaco Yellow guitar shipped over from Japan...Why dont I just buy a cheaper Squier and paint it myself...
So...we walk into the pawn shop and I'm channeling my inner @toomanycats. However, the selection was pretty slim this Saturday.
But they did have this one guitar...
60th Anniversary fender Made in Mexico in a Blizzard Pearl finish
It was priced at $500
Woman comes over and asks if I want to touch it...
I said...I know your tricks - If I get my hands on it...I'm more likely to buy it...
She laughed...I said....lemme see it...
Long story short..I offered $300 and we settled at $350...$371 out the door.
Came with case.
Got it home and it was really dirty.
Took it in to my work and cleaned it up. Did a setup on it....Filed the frets etc...
Questions following pics
Questions for the group:
1. Would it be a good idea to repaint this guitar the color I want? It is a limited edition so I wasnt sure..
2. If selling, should I be worried about the neck pocket and how the paint is kinda rounded off the wood? See 2nd to last pic.
3. What should I be asking? Could I get $500?

Looks nice! As for mods, I consider any mods to reduce the value of the guitar, because the mods are what the modder wants, not what the next owner wants. There are exceptions, but a refinish is definitely in that category. It tells many buyers there was some sort of damage requiring a refinish, even if that's not the case.

I would not paint it. Nice guitar and HNGD!

How about this yellow? I don't have any experience with AE bodies but maybe someone here does:

Another no paint. I like that finish. Great score.

I have bought a few items from them (mainly necks) & have been very satisfied. YMMVthepezident wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 2:26 pmThanks for the link!Tiga wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 8:16 am How about this yellow? I don't have any experience with AE bodies but maybe someone here does:

they say one can ask them for certain body specs like light vs heavy.
They also mention multi. i.e, 3 piece bodies.
It might not really matter, but I like 3 piece bodies best. Ones where the center piece is wider than pickup cavities.
That way neck attachment and pups have no glue lines intersecting. Might just be in my head, but that seems ideal vs even a 2 piece where glue runs through neck pocket and pup cavities.

Don't paint it. While it's apart, carefully scrape the excess paint out ot the pocket so the neck heel sits flat, there.
