I used two guitars to track this tune, an EVH 5150 Standard on the left, and a Jackson Pro Series Soloist on the right. I tend to bitch a lot about ceramic humbuckers, and about how much I prefer A2 PAFs . . . but gosh darn do the Duncan Distortions in that Jackson have good tone.

Some great playing throughout, and you definitely hit the hair metal thing ( I think of Keel ) but I also get a little Alice Cooper/dark metal mixed in myself. I am not a songwriter by any stretch of the imagination, so most of my "reviews" come from me comparing/contrasting what I hear to other thing's I've heard - no offense ever intended by suggesting anyone's music sounds ( or doesn't ) sound like something else.

I definitely hear some EVH-like tone in your rig.

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback and it's always interesting to know what others are hearing in a piece of music I create.

Though I was not thinking Alice Cooper when I made the song, I think you're spot on with that reference, especially if you're talking around the era of the Trash album. I don't even know who plays guitar on that record, but those tones and licks are killer and definitely have a home in the data files of my brain.

Regarding the songwriting process, Amanda (the singer) came to me with a fully composed set of lyrics with the vampire subject matter. This prompted me to make the music more "dark." Actually, the earliest demo version of the tune has more of a Danzig vibe. It might be interesting to go back and follow through in developing the song along that path.

I take that as a compliment, as I consider Eddie's tone circa 1978-1984 as the gold standard for hard rock music.

My entire "rig" for this recording was:

EVH 5150 Standard (Jackson Pro Series Soloist) → Bogner Ecstasy Pedal → 65 Amps London → Marshall Celestion Vintage 30 → Shure SM57 → Golden Age Pre 73 → Apogee Duet → Logic

Thanks. Yes, the main riff definitely has a Mötley Crüe "Live Wire" type tension going in.

Good one. Vocal harmony and use of delay was nice.
