The Firefly Has Landed **Update**

HNGD Jeff! Glad to see that you ended up with a good one and that certainly looks very nice. I had bad luck with Firefly back when they were starting to become all the rage. I ordered 3 separate 338s back in they day when they only sold via Amazon and all 3 had significant issues that I had to return each of them.

Having said all that it does seem that the quality has been improving in general and they certainly have a lot more options available via the GuitarsGarden site. And the 338 was their first model so I won’t lie that I haven’t been tempted! I would want to buy via Amazon again so the return would not be a hassle, I’ve heard that it can be a big issue if you order via their own site.

I hope it works out and I know you will give it the full treatment - maybe some Buddha pickups?

Got to agree on their quality improvement. Over almost two years I bought ALOT of FFs and the body finishes on ALL of them has been flawless. Their PUPS are serviceable as long as you don't go "Gain Crazy". If your style is to go that route you'll definitely need a swap of HBs. Their P-90 models are great. Usual low cost import Tuners, Bridge, Tailpiece and Electronics. If you are a "Modster" you'll Live On The Edge Of Wetness with their guitars. Their Frets are incredible. FFs remind me of "The Heady Days Of Rondo Lore".

It is absolutely rondo V2 . I like the feel of the energy on the Facebook page. People buying all the different colors. I feel like grandpa enjoying the kids seeing all the new animals at the zoo there.

I was going to say it's amazing how many beautiful guitars you got there but none of them were the ones tempting me but then you snuck the V in at the end.
That and the lp jr DC ate the only holes in my collection.
Maybe should of done the langudec?? As it's just sooooo rare

Nah...I Like being ELECTRIFIED. I did pick up this Harley Benton knockoff of a Taylor T-5 tho. I added a Fishman Triple Play to
trigger Virtual Instruments in my DAW.

I had a 339 and it was just odd to me. I was like it was put into a laundry and it shrank. I do have a Gibson Midtown that I like a lot.

Update on the Firefly 338. I have done 4 significant things to this guitar. The top picture is Before and the bottom pic is After. Two are apparent and two are not.
1. Changed to tuners to mini Grover 18:1 Rotomatics
2. Dyed the fretboard a little darker with some ebony stain.
3. Adjusted the truss rod and other set up adjustments.
4. Installed Buddha Hums wound to my specs with A2 mags.

It blows away the new Gretsch Streamliner. It feels solid as a rock yet is lightweight. It plays like butter and sounds amazing. This will be my "go to" Semi for gigging.

The neck profile is perhaps one to one point five skoshes bigger than a Gibson's 60's profile which is perfect for me and the scale length is 24 3/4" like a Gibson (most Gibsons, YMMV).

I had to bump this thread again to mention how pleased I am with the 338. To recap, I installed Grovers, some custom Buddha pups and I stained the fretboard with ebony stain by Minwax. I took it to rehearsal last week and gave it a good workout through my Peavey C30. It is a perfect player and just feels solid as a rock. It has to be the best $179 guitar on the planet.

That is my MO - put a set of Buddhas in these inexpensive husks & you have a wonderful guitar!

I swear I have bought my last electric guitar but I would still love to have my Gretsch 3140 back. I found myself looking at one last night on Reverb. The Firefly 338 and the Gretsch Streamliner were the first I have picked up in about 8 years. I think I have the Streamliner upgraded enough that I can do without the 3140. I have not needed a guitar since the 70's, LOL.
